Only five matches- but plenty of goals on home win Saturday!

By Ian Townsend

Uxbridge lead the Saturday scoring charts with five, Southall, Marlow and Thatcham managed three, and Ascot got one- and all recorded home victories

Second place Southall had taken only three points from their last four matches, which to some extent had enabled Chertsey’s enormous lead. With three defeats from four The All hoped to get back to winning ways, but they had a significant obstacle heading their way, Westfield the visitors. The All made the breakthrough on seventeen minutes from the spot, Jaden Thompson-Brissett keeping his cool and scoring his twenty ninth of the season, and they made it two-nil just before the break, Darren Mark doubling their advantage. There was still time for a third before they all went off for a half time orange, Brendan Matthew perhaps making the lead unassailable, and although the visitors got one back a minute from time, Mayowa Adaje with it, that was that. The All cut the Curfews lead to six points, Westfield hold on to fifth place- but their twelve match unbeaten run comes to an end.

Third place Marlow haven't given up on the title, despite being ten points behind leaders Chertsey with a game in hand as we kicked off. They were looking for another three points and an eighth win from nine as they welcomed third bottom Ashford Town to the Alfred Davis Ground, and they broke the deadlock just before the break, Dave Tarpey making it fourteen goals in fourteen Marlow matches. Tarpey did it again on the hour, making it two-nil, and a red card for Sam Humphreys made things worse for the travelling Tangerines. Right at the end Rhys Harper made it three-nil, and Marlow close the gap on Chertsey to seven points whilst making it six wins in a row against the Tangerines, who haven’t defeated Marlow in ten attempts.

Hartley Wintney saw a six match unbeaten run come to an end when they were hammered by Binfield last weekend, and hoped to reignite their play off hopes as they travelled to Uxbridge, the hosts having gone nine games without a win- and lost seven of them. Uxbridge gave themselves a big confidence boost by going ahead just before the half hour, George Moore opening the scoring, and they were even more joyous when Moore added another just before the break. Victory for the hosts was confirmed when Elijah Anthony made it three-nil with fifteen minutes left, and a late red card for Liam Gavin looked to have ended a miserable day for the visitors- but it was able to become more miserable still, Alex Witham making it four-nil and Anthony adding another to make it five. Thatcham Town welcomed South Park Reigate, tenth v eighth. Both sides got back to wining ways last time out, the Kingfishers defeating Corinthian-Casuals whilst the Sparks were overcoming second place Southall, both matches ending three-one. The hosts broke the deadlock early on, Jordi Ebanda opening the scoring on just nine minutes, and they doubled their tally when Sam Tanner made it two-nil midway through the first half. Three minutes into the second half it was as good as game over, Muhamadou Ceesay making it three-nil, and a late red card for the Sparks Joe Haigh certainly confirmed the home win. Thatcham climb to eighth.

Ascot United welcomed Chipstead to the Racecourse Ground. Both were desperate for three points, the Yellas having gone five matches without a win, and the Chips able to better that, their winless run going back six matches. The Yellas broke the deadlock ten minutes before half time, Liam Tack scoring from the spot, and that turned out to be that.

Matches at Badshot Lea, Binfield, Chertsey Town, Guernsey and Raynes Park Vale sadly failed to defeat the weather.
