Pitching In Isthmian League- supporters predictions 2021-22- Hashtag United

By Ian Townsend

We start with some particularly highly exposed newcomers, as Hashtag United supporter Matthew Napier gives us his views.

We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off. We’re starting with Hashtag United fan Matthew.

1. Thinking about last season- what there was of it- were there any highlights for you?

Last season was very short, but the- best ever- highlight was is our historic FA Cup run. We made our FA Cup debut at what was our very first ground and won 2-1 against Park View, then we won the next round against Felixstowe and Walton United (who we will meet in this league season). The game was special for one reason, the penalty shootout was the second longest in FA Cup history. Then we won the next round- which was broadcast by BBC- against Soham Town Rangers in another penalty shootout, and finally, we were 90 secs away from beating NL South side Braintree Town, however they equalized beat us in the penalty shootout. Despite this loss, we are very proud of our FA Cup run. We go again in the FA Cup 2021/22.

2. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 2021-22 campaign?

Jake Lindsey is definitely one to watch with his dribbling flair. People will know him as a the winner of Hashtag Academy Series 3. Ross Gleed is a beast in the middle and he is the fans favourite with his physical strength and powerful shooting ability. Finally George Smith, who is our top goalscorer for the past two seasons is still only 22 years old.

3. How will you do this season?

Top 10 is realistically my target. Avoiding relegation is our main target as our record against Step 4 sides isn’t the best, but I think we can do well and finish mid-table in this league.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

Romford vs Hashtag is my most anticipated game, as it is my hometown against my very favourite club. As for the other matches, we are new to the league and I cannot wait for the adventures around Isthmian League North clubs.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

Just recently, Bromley FC- Cray Wanderers- is by far the best away ground I have been to.

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Hashtag don’t really have rivals, we are still a new club and we haven't got any quarrels with anyone! May be during the next couple of years, that will change. Who knows?

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

We are very friendly and we are a family club. We welcome any fans coming to our ground, the staff/volunteers will be working hard to ensure the matchday will be great for all. And if you want to have a selfie with any players or staff, please do be patient and wait until the end of the game!

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

Dan Brown, our all-time top scorer and a great character.

9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?

Maldon & Tiptree, Bury Town, Heybridge Swifts, Tilbury, Aveley
