Pitching In Isthmian League- supporters predictions 2021-22: Cheshunt

By Ian Townsend

We’re back in the Premier Division, and off to Cheshunt, courtesy of a confident Henri Jackson.

We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off. Henri Jackson gives the green light to promotion for the Ambers.

1. Thinking about last season- what there was of it- were there any highlights for you?

Surprisingly, I have two highlights from the previous season. A 2-1 comeback victory away to Horsham stands out, that was when we knew we could compete with the bigger teams in the league. A midweek home victory over Folkestone courtesy of a late goal was very memorable, as it took us top of the table.

2. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 2021-22 campaign?

Ken Charles is a player I see standing out in the forthcoming season. With successful spells at both our rivals Enfield Town and Potters Bar Town and a top class pre-season, I believe Ken has what it takes to hit the heights for us this year. A few ever-presents include the likes of Reece Beckles-Richards who is known for his scoring prowess and will most likely partner Ken, and Jamie Reynolds who has the ability to provide assists from the middle of the park.

3. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?

I personally believe we can win the title. Call me deluded but it’s a genuine opinion! I think a realistic achievement would be Play-Offs. It would really push us on as a club, and make us established in this division.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

Obviously Enfield, Potters Bar and Bishop’s Stortford home and away will be the first names to look for on the fixture list. They are always feisty and enjoyable encounters with a healthy, local rivalry recognised by the players and staff. Kingstonian away is always good from a Cheshunt point of view, we have developed somewhat of a rivalry with them over the past few seasons, and I will look forward to visiting The King George V Stadium for the upcoming season.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

I really rate Worthing’s ground. I have only travelled there once but they always bring a lot of support home and away. It is a mission fighting to be heard when chanting from behind the goal. Enfield Town is also a nice ground to visit. Local, and you know you’re in for a good game.

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Enfield Town are our biggest rivals in my opinion. The A10 El Classico. Although it may be somewhat of a one-way rivalry, I think in recent years Enfield have realised we are no mugs when it comes to our home and away support. Potters Bar and Bishop‘s Stortford are also local rivals. Always good banter between both sets of fans and definitely 2 games where the pre match nerves would kick in beforehand.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

I would recommend getting off at Theobald’s Grove station on the London Overground if you would like to go straight to the ground. It is significantly nearer than Cheshunt.

If you are looking for a pub for a pre match drink I would definitely recommend travelling to Cheshunt station. A lot more pubs down that way and a town centre to explore.

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

Shane Cojocarel will always be a player I admire. A product of the Barnet academy, Shane joined us in 2019 and made an instant impact, firing us to promotion. He was labelled as the non-league Messi! Shane scored two in the play off final to send us to the Premier Division. Unfortunately his 19/20 was riddled with injuries, and he only played the last few games of that season before it was curtailed. Shane left Cheshunt last season after the season was curtailed again. I hope to cross paths with him again in the future.

9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?

Cheshunt, Worthing, Hornchurch, Carshalton Athletic, Folkestone Invicta
