Pitching In Isthmian Supporters Predictions 22-23: Merstham

By Ian Townsend

We're off to Merstham, where Mitch Chatfield is our guide

We're asking fans from each of our clubs to answer a series of questions about the past, present and future- and to predict the final league table for 22-23. Moatsider Mitch is hopeful for the new campaign.

1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?
I can’t say that there were many! A disappointing season all round. Doing the double over Leatherhead wasn’t bad. Especially the late winner in the 2-1 home fixture.

2. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 2022-23?

Michael Kamara - Experienced Central Defender that seems to win something everywhere he goes…

3. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?

Following relegation and a complete rebuild of the squad…I think it will take time, we’re young, but I think we should be aiming for the play-offs at least!

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

It would have to be Guernsey FC, although you gave it to us on a Wednesday night in February…

5. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?
Lewes FC - Dripping Pan

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

In terms of local rivals in our division, it would have to be South Park FC & Chipstead FC, both only a few miles away.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Ignore the takeaway restaurants on route, get your food in the ground, served by former Goalkeeper and Club legend Ian Chatfield.

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

In recent times it would have to be Tommy Kavanagh! Led us to The First round proper of the FA Cup as captain. Hopefully we’ll see him in Amber & Black again one day…

9. Who do you predict will finish in the top five this season?

Chertsey Town, Basingstoke Town, Merstham, Walton & Hersham, South Park (Reigate)

Thanks Mitch! We’re about to close this feature and print the predicted tables- so if you asked for the questions and haven’t yet sent them back, please hurry! Predicted tables will be posted from Wednesday.
