Play Off intrigue

By Ian Townsend

Bedfont and Chertsey will have home advantage- but who will finish second? And it’s either Basingstoke or Uxbridge in the battle for fifth. Here’s our Pitching In Isthmian South Central preview.

The bottom of the table is already finalised, with Staines Town down and Chalfont St Peter with a relegation play off at best, but we’ve still time for intrigue at the top end, despite Bracknell Town’s runaway victory.

The Robins may well have another say on what happens behind them. Bedfont Sports are in pole position for second place and home advantage, but to keep it they are likely to have to defeat the champions at the end of the Heathrow runway this afternoon, as they are ahead of Chertsey Town only on goal difference.

The Curfews are on the road to Thatcham Town looking for the result which will take them back into the second spot they’ve held for most of the season, but we do know that Sports and Chertsey will have home advantage in the semi-finals- but remember, the side who finish higher will also have home advantage for the final, assuming they get there.

Hanwell Town are certain for the top five, but could end up fourth or fifth. If they can win against Guernsey at the Powerday this afternoon, it’ll definitely be fourth.

The battle for the final play off place is intriguing, however. Basingstoke Town hold pole position, a point ahead of Uxbridge. Stoke are on the road to Chalfont St Peter, whilst Uxbridge travel to take on difficult-to-beat South Park.

Elsewhere, Binfield, who have had a fine season, welcome Chipstead, who are having a fine end to the campaign. Staines Town’s final Isthmian match- for now, at least- is at Wealdstone, where they ‘welcome’ Northwood, whilst Sutton Common Rovers play their final match at Gander Green Lane before a move to Whyteleafe, where they entertain Ashford Town.

Westfield welcome Marlow, and any ground hoppers with time to spare might want to consider this, as there will be time to cross Woking Park and watch Woking afterwards, as their match with Wrexham starts at 5.20 PM.
