Rangers leapfrog K’s in our bottom two battle

By Ian Townsend

A dire day for the struggling Kingstonian, as Concord Rangers continue to improve

Kingstonian’s woes continued at Imperial Fields, as they fell to defeat against bottom side Concord Rangers- and as such replaced them in last place.

The K’s went into last night’s match having failed to win a league game since a three-nil victory over Folkestone Invicta on October 21st, a run of twelve matches which had included ten defeats. Having lost each of their previous five, the K’s must have been delighted when Eddie D’Sane’s thirteenth goal of the season put them ahead after just seven minutes- but that was as good as it got for the hosts.

Rangers were in better form than their hosts coming into the game, with two wins, three draws and two defeats from their previous seven matches, and they also had the luxury of five games in hand over the K’s, courtesy of a large number of postponements. This was only their third match of the month so far, and perhaps that was responsible for their slow start, but they were level on twenty five minutes through Sharon Ifeanyi.

The winner arrived with twenty five minutes to go, and it went to Amine Sassi- a goal which saw the Beachboys climb from the bottom for the first time since mid December, and saw their hosts replace them there, three points further back, ten points from safety, and having conceded more goals than anyone else in the Division. It was a goal worthy of winning the match, a lovely strike into the top corner, but there won’t have been many home fans admiring it. Rangers then saw Max Hudson hit a post as they tried to make the points safe- but it turned out that they were safe even without a further goal.

The sides are scheduled to meet again on Saturday on Canvey Island, in what will be the Beachboys first home match this month. A home win and a quickfire double would really spark life into Rangers’ great escape, whilst a K’s victory might just give them hope- and goodness, they need some of that at the moment.
