Rooks and Towners prepare for a trip to Italy

By Ian Townsend

Lewes and Enfield Town are off to Lake Garda next month- to participate in the Fenix Trophy Finals

Lewes and Enfield Town have been amongst the English participants in the Fenix Trophy this season, and our two clubs have done remarkably well- so well, in fact, that they've reached the final four and will be off to Italy next month, where they will try to win the entire competition.

This season's competition has featured clubs from Poland, Belgium, Wales, England, Denmark, Romania, France, Finland, Norway, and Czech Republic; clubs chosen for their 'social, historical and cultural distinctiveness.' Of course both the Rooks and the Towners are supporter owned, and have significant community initiatives.

Lewes won a group which also featured FC Oslo and KFC Beveren, whilst Enfield Town emerged triumphant from a group also containing BK Skjold and Llantwit Major. The Finals will see them compete against former champions FC United of Manchester and Prague Raptors.

The four clubs head to Desenzano del Garda, where they will play their Semi-Finals on Friday 10th May, with the Final and 3rd Place Play Off on Sunday 12th May. The matches will be played at Stadio Tre Stelle.

The organisers are offering to arrange accommodation for those who might wish to attend, and you can find out more about that- and indeed about the tournament finale- here.

Congratulations to the Rooks and Towners- the latter who will also be involved in our end of season spectacular having qualified for the Pitching In Isthmian Premier Play Offs. We'd like to wish both clubs the best of luck as they try to bring home a European trophy!
