Dulwich Hamlet manager Gavin Rose has been hailed for giving the Ryman Premier club's youngsters a chance.

With eight regulars unavailable on Tuesday night for Margate's visit to Champion Hill, Rose, pictured, called up six of the club's successful academy side who play in the Kent Sunday League and Football Conference Youth Alliance and was rewarded with a 2-1 win over the title-chasing Kent club in front of a big midweek crowd of 811.

The victory lifted Hamlet to fourth spot in the Ryman's top flight table and the south London club's chief executive officer Martin Eede paid tribute to their manager's bravery on Thursday for giving chances to Ethan Pinnok, Keshaney Samuels, Xavier Vidal, Abdul Mansaray, Karim Boyle who all played and Emiliano Hysi who was an unused substitute.

Hamlet have enjoyed a great start to the campaign under Rose, collecting 16 points from eight outings, and Eede said: "We have had a great start to the season and Gavin showed real bravery in bringing the younger players in. With the injuries we have had to our first choice players they did fantastically well."

He added: "The club is delighted that Gavin was rewarded for the confidence he had in the players and delighted for the boys themselves who can only benefit from the experience."
