Shot of the Season 21-22: Andy Nunn

By Ian Townsend

We asked our fabulous Pitching In Isthmian Photographers to choose their favourite photograph of the campaign, and tell us why it is important to them.

We’ve had a magnificent Pitching In Isthmian season, one which has been illustrated and enriched by the work of a number of brilliant photographers, who have recorded it for posterity. Andy Nunn brings us the best of those Tolworth Titans, Corinthian-Casuals.

• When was the image taken (match, event, etc)?

Corinthian-Casuals v St Albans FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round

• Why is it important to you?

Casuals had not reached the 1st Round Proper of the FA Cup since 1983 when they played Bristol City.

Alfie Bendle had just put us into the lead and we had played St Albans off the park. The 1st Round was in touching distance but alas an error 17 seconds from the end gave the visitors a cruel equaliser and we lost the replay on penalties. St Albans went on to host Forest Green Rovers live on the BBC on a Sunday night.
The picture sums up the highs and lows football can produce.

• Where can we find the rest of your work?

On Flickr and on Twitter.

• How and why did you begin taking photographs at football matches?

I have always watched Non League football in-between supporting Southampton FC . Early 2000 I grew bored of watching the professional game, so got involved photographing with various clubs . I seemed to spend more and more time at Corinthian-Casuals and this season have really enjoyed being part of the club .

• What are your hopes for the forthcoming season?
Sadly the manager James Bracken has stepped down from his roll and this inevitably leads to various players moving on to new clubs.
I hope the "New" boss can continue to build a decent squad and keep Casuals in the Isthmian Premier Division.

If you regularly take photographs at our matches but haven't yet submitted yours, there's still time. Send it to Ian at townsendaround@gmail.com
