Six clear for the Curfews- but they left it late

By Ian Townsend

Chertsey defeat Leatherhead, Marlow get four, Vale get back to wining ways, Westfield break Binfield hearts, the Row beat the Baggies, whilst Yellas and Tangerines draw

Ascot United played host to Ashford Town (Middx), both sides looking to get back on the winning trail, the Yellas having lost four of their last five, the Tangerines without a win in six. It was the visitors who broke the deadlock, Ben Holder with the opener after thirty one minutes, and within five minutes the visitors had another, Kingsley Eshun on the scoresheet- but the hosts quickly made an impact of their own, Harry Laflin getting a goal back. The equaliser arrived four minutes from time, Ben Harris earning a point for the Yellas.

Badshot Lea welcomed Hartley Wintney, the hosts looking to go five matches unbeaten, the visitors looking to stretch their unbeaten run to six. The deadlock was broken right before half time, Mason Obeng scoring for the visitors, and only two minutes into the second half it was two-nil, Reece Wylie with the second for the Row. The Baggies gave themselves hope thirteen minutes from time, Josh Keeya getting his fourth of the season, but it was hope that was soon dashed when Conor Lynch made it three-one to the visitors, his eleventh goal in twelve matches. That was that, The Row remaining seventh- three points away from the top five.

Two wins in a row had given bottom side Binfield renewed hope of avoiding the drop, and they went ahead against play off chasing Westfield when Ethan Lindo scored after twenty minutes. You could almost hear the theme tune to The Great Escape when an own goal made it two-nil ten minutes before half time, but the entrance of Steve McQueen on a motorbike was delayed when Jacob Breckon quickly got a goal back for the visitors. Breckon levelled the match just before the hour mark, and it was heartbreak for the Moles when Manolis Gogonas added a third from the spot to complete the Westfield comeback with six minutes left. Westfield remain three points behind the top five, the Moles ten points from safety.

Leaders Chertsey Town looked to have a tough challenge, third place Leatherhead making the journey, but the Curfews broke the deadlock just after the half hour, Luke Robertson opening the scoring. The equaliser arrived twelve minutes from time, Daniel Hector drawing the Tanners level, but right at the end the Curfews found a winner, Luke Robertson delighting the home faithful and stretching his sides lead at the top to six points.

Marlow have been in superb form, six unbeaten including five wins, and they looked to be well on their way to another three points when Dave Tarpey scored his eleventh goal in twelve matches after just eight minutes against Northwood. The Woods, however, had other ideas, and were behind for only two minutes before Adam Lareef levelled on his debut- but Marlow’s lead was restored through Naheer-Omar Nawaf seven minutes later. Nine minutes into the second half the hosts had a cushion, Tarpey scoring once more to make it three-one, and the lead was soon even bigger, Dawid Rogalski taking his tally for the season to twenty eight. The hosts then caused themselves a problem, Elijah Oladunjoye given a red card, but the outcome remained unchanged, and Marlow are up to third.

Raynes Park Vale welcomed Corinthian-Casuals. Vale had seen their promotion hopes hit by four defeats from their previous five, but they went ahead in this one midway through the first half, Jordan Stepney with the opening goal. It was two-nil ten minutes before half time, Jordan Gallagher, who is having a fine season, taking his tally for the campaign to nineteen, and that was how it ended, Vale remaining fifth. Casuals are seven points from safety.
