Tangerines and Chips have six appeal

By Ian Townsend

We had goals galore in the South Central, Ashford and Chipstead managing six, with four for Woods, Sparks and Rovers. Guernsey, Raynes Park, Chertsey, Leatherhead and Thatcham also won on a day with no draws

We had goals galore in Pitching In isthmian South Central, and leading the way were Ashford Town, Luke Tuffs second spell in charge arriving with a dream start as his Tangerines hit six! After forty four goalless minutes against Binfield we had two goals before half time, Harry Woodward and Sam Humphreys with them, and after the break the traffic was almost entirely one way, Ed McCrea, Humphreys once more, Carlos Bain and Michael Campbell burying the Moles to send their side top of the table. Another side with six appeal were Chipstead, who welcomed Hartley Wintney to the Isthmian League in a way which the visitors will want to forget. It looked good for the visitors when Jayden Smith put them ahead on eighteen minutes, but that was the best it got for the travelling faithful, as their side was soon behind, Chad Goulter and Daniel Berry with the goals. The visitors were level before the break, Elijas Bagdonavicius with the equaliser, but the second half was dominated by the hosts, who added four goals without reply- Lewis Taylor, Reuel Powell-Downey and two from Arlie Desanges delivering a fine victory.

Northwood, South Central leaders for much of last season before finally falling in a Play Off Semi-Final, gave Corinthian-Casuals a very warm welcome to the Division, hammering them by four goals to nil. Osaretin Otote was the chief architect of the visitors downfall, grabbing a twenty two minute hat trick for the hosts either side of half time, and right at the end Dan Williams added a fourth.

South Park Reigate travelled to newly promoted Badshot Lea and gave their hosts a lesson, departing with three points and four goals, two in each half. Ben Jordan got the opener on eight minutes, Ethan Kaiser added the second just before the half hour mark, and Brendan Murphy McVey made quite sure of three points with a third twenty minutes from time. Ethan Ford’s late fourth was rather rubbing salt into an open wound.

Sutton Common Rovers travelled to Met Police, and the hosts must have wished they’d locked their visitors in their dressing room during the interval, as Rovers came out fired up and scored four second half goals. Aaron Jenkins started the rout in the forty eighth minute, Danny Divine quickly added to the tally, and in the last twenty miunutes Antonio Simeone and Nabeel Ghannam got the third and fourth.

Guernsey were behind for most of their match against Westfield, yet still clinched a fine victory. Didi Ndombe gave the Surrey visitors an early lead, but Green Lions record scorer Ross Allen levelled with twenty minutes to go, and the six hundred and seventy three watching on roared their side to victory, Jack Griffin and Charlton Gauvain duly delivering three points with goals oin seventy nine and eighty two minutes.

Two of our newly promoted clubs delivered a five goal thriller, Raynes Park Vale coming from two down at home to Ascot United to take the points. Those two goals for the Yellas came from Brendan Matthew on ten minutes and Harvey Killeen four minutes later, but Jordan Gallagher got one back just before the break, added another from the spot seven minutes later, and Callum McAllister found the winner nine minutes from time.

Two of our fancied sides, Chertsey Town and Hanworth Villa, met at Alwyns Lane- and it was the visitors who struck first, Kyen Nicholas giving them a half time lead. The Curfews didn’t give up, however, and Rob Sheridan drew them level nine minutes after the restart before Luke Robinson got the winner twelve minutes from time. Four hundred and eighty four watched on, most of them delighted.

Leatherhead and Southall are also backed for success this season, and the Tanners started the campaign with a narrow victory, perhaps helped by the fact that the visitors ended the match with ten men. The decisive action was all in the second half. First, Ollie Cook opened the scoring for Leatherhead on fifty two minutes, only for Anthony Mendy to quickly level for All. A red card for Joshua Green with twenty four minutes remaining gave the hosts a boost, but they were unable to take advantage until two minutes from time, Kenny Beaney converting a spot kick to deliver victory.

Finally on a day with no draws, Thatcham Town recorded a fine victory on the road at Marlow. The only goal went to Sam Tanner, nine minutes into the second half.
