Tanners deliver cup triumph

Leatherhead progress in the Velocity Cup- after a dramatic shootout

We had a meeting of two of our Pitching In Isthmian South Central sides in the Velocity Cup last night, as Sutton Common Rovers welcomed Leatherhead- and it was the Tanners that eventually triumphed, but they needed a penalty shootout to do it.

Rovers went ahead early on, Liam Holden scoring after just eight minutes, but the visitors were ahead by the break, first Keane Anderson- assisted by Maxwell Mullins- and then Omarr Lawson - on his debut, converting a rebound from an Anderson shot- making it two-one.

The equaliser arrived with just seventeen minutes to go, Brian Testolin with it, and off we went to penalties. The difficulty for Rovers at this point came in the giant frame of Tanners keeper Slavomir Huk, a man who is rather well known for his prowess in shootouts- Corinthian-Casuals are still in shock after he denied them promotion in the 16-17 South Division Play Off Final, ensuring his Dorking Wanderers side went up instead. As usual, the Incredible Huk made a vital save last night, and his side triumphed four-three.

The winners travel to face Pitching In Isthmian Premier side Aveley in the Quarter Finals, with the match to be played in January.
