Tanners go top

By Ian Townsend

It was awayday Tuesday in Pitching In Isthmian South Central last night, as Leatherhead reached the summit and Uxbridge hit five

We only had two matches in Pitching In isthmiasn South Central last night, but three of the sides involved had the chance to go top.

Two of the three met as Ascot United welcomed Leatherhead. The Yellas had five consecutive wins in all competitions- five matches in which they'd scored fourteen goals- whilst the Tanners were unbeaten in the league and hit six in the Trophy on Saturday. Those statistics suggested we'd have a high-scoring contest, and it looked like that might be the case when the first goal went in after only two minutes, but as it turned out it was the only goal of the game. Trevan Robinson, who scored four at the weekend, got it- six in three matches for the Leatherhead number nine- and it was enough to send Leatherhead a point clear at the top.

Westfield hit Littlehampton Town for four in the FA Trophy on Saturday, and would have been confident that they were ready to claim their first league win of the season as Uxbridge came to call. The visitors, however, had other ideas, and retained their one hundred percent league record with a thumping win.

Alex Paine opened the scoring on seventeen minutes, and the lead was doubled three minutes later, Michael Bryan making it two-nil, which was how it remained at half time. Eight minutes after the restart George Moore made it three, and Moore must have enjoyed the sensation of scoring so much that he felt compelled to do it again, just two minutes later. The fifth and final goal of the game arrived soon afterwards, Lewis Patrick making it five-nil on sixty two minutes- a result which sends the visitors up to second, and gives them the best goal difference in the Division.
