Tanners go top on South Central Wednesday

By Ian Townsend

Leatherhead hit the summit and Southall are up to fifth after Wednesday night wins

Leatherhead remain the only side in the Division with a zero in the L column, and took top spot with victory at Sutton Common Rovers last night- but only by the slimmest of margins.

Last season the sides met three times and delivered goals galore, and it seems that they used most of their goal ration, as last night's meeting in Whyteleafe saw just the one goal- and that was scored in the wrong net. The own goal arrived just before the break, but it was enough to give the Tanners all three points and take them a point clear of Raynes Park Vale at the top of the table.

Our other match made up for the goals missing in the first one. Southall scored eight on Saturday, and they have firmly tied on their shooting boots. Last night they more than doubled Marlow's goals against tally for the season, firing home four goals which sent them into the top five. The opener arrived after seventeen minutes, Anthony O'Connor with his fourth of the campaign, and it remained that way until nine minutes after the break, when Dimitris Savva made it two. Top scorer Jaden Thompson-Brissett then got into the act, taking his tally for the season into double figures by converting a spot kick, and although Marlow hit back through Rhys Harper Thompson-Brissett wasn't finished, and made it four-one with seventeen minutes to go. That's eleven goals for the season so far for The All's number seven.
