Tanners hit six, Baggies get five, and Westfield four on a positive South Central Trophy day

By Ian Townsend

We also had wins for Hartley Wintney, Chertsey, Met Police, Ascot, Rovers, Marlow, Sparks and Southall as most of our South Central clubs marched on

Chipstead have had a fine start to the South Central campaign, and had scored ten goals in their last two league matches, but they were quickly on the back foot against Lancing and couldn’t recover. Alex Plummer put the Lancers ahead on twenty five minutes, Lucas Frantzen-Jones quickly added a second, and it was three-nil by the break, Frantzen-Jones scoring again. A fourth from Andrew Briggs wrapped things up just before the hour, and goals from Danyaal Iqbal and Arlie Desanges only gave the scoreline some respectability for the hosts, who finally went down two-four.

Corinthian-Casuals picked up their first win of the season last weekend, but couldn’t add to that, as Hartley Wintney scored the only goal of the match in Tolworth. Mason Obeng provided it, seven minutes after the break.

Hanworth Villa and Chertsey Town met in a clash between two of our South Central promotion favourites. The Villains were defeated by the Curfews as recently as August 12th, and lightning struck twice, but only just, the visitors only triumphing in a penalty shootout. Sam Omperon put the Curfews ahead just before the half hour mark and it looked like that would be enough, only for Ben Geraghty to level just before the end. The visitors triumphed four-two from the spot.

Herne Bay welcomed Leatherhead to the Kentish seaside. The visiting Tanners suffered a first defeat of the campaign in midweek, departing the FA Cup in a replay at Horsham- and they certainly weren’t about to let that happen again, hitting the hosts for six in the Trevan Robinson Show. Tyler Cox sent the Tanners in ahead at the break, and ten minutes after the restart Trey Masikini made it two, only for Bay to half the arrears through Michael Salako. At that point Robinson took over, hitting FOUR in half an hour to clinch a six-one win.

Horndean had scored three goals in each of their cup ties prior to the visit of Ascot United, and added two more, but that didn’t help much as the Yellas got three. The three United goals all arrived in the first fifteen minutes, Brendan Matthews with the first and third- that’s nine for the season for the striker- and Sam Bello-Balogun with the one in the middle. Dean reduced the arrears nine minutes before the break through Zack Willett, got another back with twenty minutes to go through Tommy Scutt, but that was that.

Merstham and Sutton Common Rovers spent last season in a relegation battle against each other in Pitching In Isthmian South Central, both eventually surviving after a play off. Now in different divisions, the two sides met again at Moatside and Rovers coasted through, goals from Courtney Swaby, Antonio Simeone and Gabriel Odunaike after the break delivering a three-nil win.

Phoenix Sports of the South East Division and Metropolitan Police of the South Central had both had starts to the campaign to forget, and both were desperate for the victory that might kick start their season. The visitors eventually got that victory, but only by winning a penalty shootout after a one-one draw. Michael Sarpong gave the hosts the lead ten minutes after the break, only for Adam Green to level fifteen minutes from time- and off we went to penalties, the visitors winning five-four.

Ramsgate were magnificent in demolishing league leaders Chatham Town in the Cup last weekend, and had won their previous four matches- and last season’s Premier Golden Boot winner, Joe Taylor, had already scored eight times. Taylor didn’t manage to add another against South Central visitors Northwood, but it didn’t matter as his side still delivered three goals without reply. They all arrived in the first half, Medy Elito, Tijan Jadama and Mike West making the tie quickly secure.

Raynes Park Vale played host to Marlow in another all South Central clash. Both sides have had fine starts to the season, Vale topping the table with a one hundred percent record whilst Marlow had won their last five matches in all competitions, and the visitors made that six in a row, Dawid Rogalski scoring the only goal of the game on fourteen minutes.

Sittingbourne were at home to Ashford Town (Middx), and it looked as if we were off to a penalty shootout- but no! Right at the end the Brickies got a winner, Chris Harris sending them through two-one. Emmanuel Osei-Owusu had earlier opened the scoring for the hosts only for Jack Arnold to level just before the break for the Tangerines.

South Park (Reigate) got their season back on track, coming from behind to defeat Erith & Belvedere. Chris Dickson gave the Deres a half time lead, but the Sparks levelled with twenty two minutes left, Deondre Date with the equaliser. Fifteen minutes remained when Brendan Murphy-McVey made it two-one, and that turned out to be that.

Southall and Chichester City met in a cup match for the second time this season, and The All triumphed once more, winning this one two-one. It was advantage City when Ethan Pritchard put them ahead on the quarter hour, but Caden Thompson-Brissett’s fifth of the season drew his side level thirteen minutes later, and twelve minutes after half time Anthony O’Connor got the winner.

Thame United, fourteenth in Pitching In Southern Division One South, were the hosts for Badshot Lea. The Baggies picked up their first league win last weekend, and built upon that victory in style, hammering their hosts by five goals to nil. Lamin Ceesay was the hero, with the second, third, fourth and match ball, whilst George Hedley opened the scoring and George Frise rounding things off.

Thatcham Town welcomed a Bristol Manor Farm side who are yet to register a league win but who have been much more successful in the Cup, and had three knockout victories already to their name. That’s up to four, but they had to come from two goals down to record it, and then win a shootout. A Jordan Alaves double put the Kingfishers two up with forty minutes left, only for the visitors to level with thirteen minutes left and triumph three-one from the spot.

Westfield welcomed Littlehampton Town to Woking Park. The South Central hosts hadn’t scored in the last two hundred and eighty one minutes across league and cup, but were obviously saving their goals for the Golds, winning four-one. Jake Baxter started things off for the hosts on fourteen minutes, and four minutes later Mayowa Adage made it two. Town got a goal back on the hour, Ollie Starkey halving the deficit, but that spurred the hosts into action, Andrew Crossley quickly restoring the two goal lead, before Didi Ndombe made it four-one right at the end.
