Terrors battle the dreaded chafer grub- and emerge victorious!

New pitch at Tooting & Mitcham United

Tooting & Mitcham United may be known as the Terrors, but they've been battling a terror of their own- the chafer grub. No. we'd never heard of it either, but that's because we're not skilled in the art of groundkeeping- unlike Tooting's very own Ric Ede, who took on the challenge of these wriggling, six-legged, root eating beasties single-handed- and won!

Once the league officially ended Tooting & Mitcham United FC took the decision to make an early start on the groundworks needed in preparation for next season. The pitch at Imperial Fields had deteriorated because of the wet winter and these horrible creatures below the surface, and Ric had to strip the pitch, relay it with sixty tons of top soil, vertidrain it (no, we don't understand that either!), and reseed it. So now, as you can see from the images, the Terrors will have a grub free carpet to play on once we get to start football again.

The cost of this work was covered by the crowdfunding campaign which the club launched a few weeks ago, but there are many more expenses to face at a time when the ground and its facilities cannot be used. If you'd like to help the Terrors, then head here- they're made just over 50% of their target so far.
