The Row win a five goal Channel Islands thriller

Hartley Wintney get back to winning ways

Last night saw a match between the two sides bottom of the South Central form table, as Guernsey, nine matches without a win, welcomed Hartley Wintney, whose winless streak was just one match fewer. There was a strong chance that one of the sides would end their barren streak, and it turned out to be the visitors, who came out on top by the odd goal in five.

The Row went ahead seven minutes before half time, CJ Fearn scoring his first goal of the campaign for the club on his ninth appearance, finishing from close range after Liam Gavin had flicked on a through from Noah Chengun. Ten minutes into the second half they made it two-nil, Mason Obeng heading home from the edge of the six yard box, and that finally roused their hosts, who quickly struck back, Sam Murray getting the Green Lions back into the match. Only ten minutes later, however, the hopes of the homes fans were severely dented when Sam Bartlett made it three-one, and a late goal from Dave Rihoy to narrow the arrears to two-three wasn’t enough to spark an injury time equaliser.

Guernsey are safe in seventeenth- although if results go against them they could yet end up as low as nineteenth- whilst The Row climb back into the top ten and complete a Green Lions double.

Both sides are on the road for the final Saturday of the season, Guernsey travelling to Raynes Park Vale, Hartley Wintney heading to Fetcham Grove to take on Leatherhead.
