Lowestoft Town had the chance to effectively seal third place- and home advantage in their Pitching In Isthmian North Play Off Semi Final- with victory over Bury Town last night, but they couldn’t quite manage it, a hard-fought draw the outcome.
The visitors took the lead after just five minutes, a free kick finding Cruis Nydazayo on the edge of the box and his composed finish doing the rest. The hosts levelled just after the half hour, and as usual it was Jake Reed who found the net, the striker smashing home his twenty fifth goal of the season. Ten minutes later the hosts were ahead, a shot from Sam Johnson saved by Charlie Woods but the ball rebounding to Travis Cole, who made no mistake.
With twenty four minutes of the match remaining the visitors ensured a second draw between the sides this season. Darren Mills took a shot, and it took a deflection, ending up in the back of the home net. The Trawler Boys worked hard to grab a winner, but on this occasion all nets remained empty.
Lowestoft are virtually guaranteed a play off place- it would take a fairly incredible turnaround in goal difference to deny them even if they lost their remaining three matches- but as yet don’t know exactly which play off place they are guaranteed. They have a big match against their nearest challengers for third spot, Heybridge Swifts, at Scraley Road on Saturday.
Bury Town are tenth.
