Urchins extend their lead at the top to four points

By Ian Townsend

A comprehensive win for Hornchurch, Billericay coast past Hamlet, and another late horror show for Borough sees Whitehawk climb to fifth

Hornchurch had the chance to stretch their lead to four points with victory over Hastings United- and it was a chance they took, in some style. Hastings delighted the travelling fans by going ahead six minutes before half time, Sam Okoye with the goal- but that did nothing but provoke the Urchins. Lennon Peake quickly equalised- his first goal for the club- and within three minutes of the restart George Saunders had put the hosts ahead. On fifty three minutes it was three-one, Liam Nash with his tenth goal of the season- and a minute from time Ade Yusuff made it four. Since Hastings returned to our top flight they have played Hornchurch three times, and each time lost by a three goal margin.

Billericay Town climbed up to fourth with a comprehensive win over Dulwich Hamlet. The Blues had only played twice in the league since August Bank Holiday Monday, taken only one point from those two matches, and had been better on the road than on their own patch, but last night they coasted to victory over their former National League South rivals. Moses Emmanuel opened the scoring on twenty seven minutes, and after the break two goals in three minutes for Bradley Stevenson- his seventh and eighth of the campaign- confirmed victory. Hamlet slip into the bottom four as a result.

Finally, down at the sunny seaside, Whitehawk welcomed Haringey Borough. Borough have become experts at conceding late goals, and yet again they turned a winning position into a losing one in the last ten minutes. Matthew Young had given them the lead on sixty seven minutes- taking his tally for the season up to double figures- but the Hawks levelled six minutes from time, a penalty converted by Ben Pope. And then, right at the end, Borough conceded their TENTH eighty five minute plus goal of the season, Charlie Lambert sending the home fans wild and his side up to fifth. Borough, sadly, prop up the rest- but if matches had finished after eighty minutes rather than ninety, they’d currently sit in fifth.

Borough also picked up a last-gasp red card, Khalifa Jabbie dismissed.
