Uxbridge slay giants!

By Ian Townsend

It was two wins from two in the Trophy, whilst we got some fantastic goals across the Pitching In Isthmian League. Here's our round up of Tuesday's action.

Uxbridge and Marlow finally got to play their FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round ties last night, and it was two out of two for the South Central Division as both progressed to the First Round of the competition.

Uxbridge struck first as they welcomed Pitching In Southern Premier South Hayes & Yeading United to Honeycroft, Lonit Talla getting an early goal in the twelfth minute, but the visitors equalised six minutes before half time. It looked as if we were heading for a penalty shootout, but two minutes from the end Callum Bunting got the decisive goal and sent the hosts through to a match against Cray Wanderers in the next round.

Marlow dominated the first half of their match against Berkhamsted at the Alfred Davis Memorial Ground, then looked to have tripped themselves up early in the second half, as first they conceded an own goal and then saw Chris Ovenden sent off. But the ten men weren't downhearted, and soon Jordan Brown had equalised- and then one minute from time Louis Rogers got the winner. Marlow host Nuneaton Borough whenever the competition resumes.

Pitching In Isthmian Premier

Cheshunt were within one minute of moving level with Worthing at the top of the Pitching In Isthmian Premier when victory was taken from them at Wingate and Finchley. After a goalless first half the Ambers went ahead just before the hour, Jamie Reynolds with the goal, but Charlie Edwards equalised for the hosts fifteen minutes later. Once again the visitors got their noses in front, Anderson Pinto getting what looked to be the winner six minutes from time, but the marvellously-monikered Goldy Capela popped up to equalise in the eighty ninth minute.

The Ambers are second, two points behind the Mackerel Men having played two games more, whilst the Blues are sixteenth.

One point behind Cheshunt are Enfield Town, who were made to work very hard by Brightlingsea Regent but maintained their one hundred percent home record. Lewis Byrne-Hewitt put the visitors ahead after fifteen minutes, but only thirteen minutes more elapsed before the lead had changed hands, first Neville Nzembela and then Percy Kiangebeni scoring for the Towners. Ten minutes after the break Regent were level through Charlie Durling, but the hosts winner arrived ten minutes later, Lyle Della-Verde's fifth of the season securing three points.

Regent are nineteenth, yet both sides have an identical away record, which demonstrates just how important it is to Town that their QEII Stadium has become a fortress. That's six home matches in all competitions, six victories, nineteen goals scored and five conceded.

Horsham are up to eighth after a two-one win over Corinthian-Casuals. It looked as if it would be a comfortable night for the Hornets as Charlie Harris and Rob O'Toole put them two up before a quarter of the match had elapsed, but they were made to sweat when Robert Jamison got one back for the visitors eleven minutes after the break. The equaliser wouldn't come, however, and Casuals are seventeenth.

A magnificent goal from Josh Vincent - you can see it here- put Folkestone Invicta ahead against Hornchurch, but an own goal ten minutes from time looked to have earned the Urchins a point. Up popped Ian Draycott in the last minute to take all three points for the hosts, who climb to tenth. The Urchins are seventh, one point ahead.

Barking continued their recent great form to win their fourth successive match, but they left it late. After eighty nine goalless minutes at Mayesbrook Park, Dumebi GB Dumaka- who had only been on the pitch for twelve minutes- proved himself a supersub as he ended Ashford Town's resistance. The Blues are up to twelfth, three points behind their eighth placed visitors.

Pitching In Isthmian South East

VCD Athletic went into last night's second v third place battle with East Grinstead Town knowing that victory would send them top of the table, but each had to settle for a point. The Wasps took the lead just before the break, Michael Uwezu opening the scoring, but former Wasps striker Marcus Elliott, these days playing in green, levelled just after the hour, and that was that. Vickers are a point behind leaders Hastings United having played a game more, whilst the Wasps are two points further back, but have two games in hand over Vickers and one over United.
