Wednesday Night Football!

By Ian Townsend

Given it seems to have finally stopped raining, you might enjoy a trip to watch Enfield take on Witham Town! Preview here.

Our focus turns to the R&D Advisors Stadium in Bishop’s Stortford this evening, as we have a match in the Pitching In Isthmian North Division, where Enfield welcome Witham Town.

The E’s are one place- and thirteen points- away from the drop zone, but are in rather poor form, with one win from their last ten and having lost their last four matches. When they last took on Town, back on Tuesday 10th October, a goal from Rigers Kabashi earned them a one-one draw, but unfortunately Kabashi is no longer with the club- one of six of the first eleven from that match to depart soon afterwards.

Tonight’s visitors are six places and thirteen points better off than their hosts, and victory tonight would take them to the heady heights of the top ten. Town have had a rather inconsistent season but have played some fine football on occasions, and hit the road on the back of a three match unbeaten run which includes wins over Gorleston and New Salamis in their last two. Remember, this is a side who have defeated promotion chasing Felixstowe and Walton United, Heybridge Swifts and Maldon & Tiptree- the last two twice- this season, so when they hit form they are a match for almost anyone.

Town’s run in includes Bury Town, Bowers & Pitsea, Walthamstow, Brentwood Town, Lowestoft Town, Felixstowe and Maldon, so whilst they are unlikely to make the top five themselves they could have a big influence on who does. Or, to put it another way, perhaps tonight is their best chance of three points from their nine remaining matches!

Kick off is at 7.45 PM. Cash only at the turnstile please.
