We’ve a four club Tuesday battle for top spot

By Ian Townsend

Lowestoft, Regent, Felixstowe or Bowers could be at the North summit this evening

Three sides with unbeaten records, Lowestoft Town, Brightlingsea Regent and Felixstowe and Walton United, understandably make up our top three- but will they hold onto those records this evening, particularly with two of them playing each other?

The Trawler Boys, with a one point advantage over Regent having played a game more, welcome bottom side Ipswich Wanderers to the seaside. The hosts only defeats this season have come against higher level sides in Cup and Trophy, whilst Wanderers have won matches in the FA Cup, Velocity Cup and Suffolk Cup but have been far less effective when there has been no cup involved, having lost every league match so far.

Our big match comes from Felixstowe and Walton United, in third, taking on Regent, who are one place and one point above them. Another win for either will take them top if Lowestoft fail to win, so there is much at stake. Expect a pulsating encounter- the Seasiders are our top scorers, whilst Brightlingsea have far and away the best defence, conceding only once whilst winning each league match.

Bowers and Pitsea are outsiders for taking over at the top this evening, but our fourth place side could do it if the Trawler Boys fall to defeat and the two sides directly above them cancel each other out. They have rather a tough job, however, as heading to the Len Salmon are Heybridge Swifts, who have lost only one of their league matches so far and know that a win would send them back into the top five.

Seventh place Enfield also have top five aspirations as they travel to Witham Town, who will want to quickly bounce back from the hammering that took at the hands of Basildon United on Saturday; whilst Bury Town, in eighth, will look to build upon their six match unbeaten run- and their slaying of a giant at the weekend- as they welcome Gorleston. A win could also take the Greens into the top five.

The sides in tenth and ninth, Brentwood Town and Redbridge, meet at the Arena. Town have put together a three match unbeaten run and are looking upwards, whilst the Motormen’s unbeaten run is currently five matches long.

Basildon United, after their heroics at Witham on Saturday, head to Maldon- who at the same time were picking up their first league win of the season; whilst Wroxham will hope to climb to the upper reaches of the table with victory over Stowmarket Town. The Yachtsmen are on a six match winless run in all competitions, whilst the visitors are without a league win- indeed their only victories came in the early rounds of the FA Cup and County Cup.
