Will the Blues make it five in a row?

By Ian Townsend

Brentwood Town and Heybridge Swifts pursue their top five aspirations this evening, whilst Witham try to build on Saturday’s win over the Seasiders. Here’s our preview.

Only leaders Lowestoft Town have taken more points from their last ten matches than Brentwood Town, and the Blues will hope to narrow the gap between themselves and the Trawler Boys to five points- and move up to third- with victory over New Salamis at the Arena this evening. The Blues are looking to record a fifth successive victory, whilst their visitors find themselves third from bottom and with only two wins from ten- although they’d perhaps justifiably feel that some of their performances deserved better. Last season New Salamis took four points from the Blues, their last meeting a draw at the Arena in mid February.

Heybridge Swifts could jump back into the top five with victory at Redbridge. Swifts have won their last two without conceding a goal and will hope to have left their difficult patch at the start of the month behind them, whilst Redbridge have seen a positive start to the campaign slip away of late, and have lost their last four in the league- but may have been distracted a little by their FA Trophy exploits.

Witham Town shocked promotion chasing Felixstowe at the weekend, and will hope to follow that fine victory with another three points as struggling Stowmarket Town make the trip to the Simarco Stadium. The hosts had gone six without a win prior to Saturday, but will be understandably boosted by that performance, whilst poor old Stow are still without a victory and find themselves six points behind second bottom Grays Athletic. They’ll hope that tonight will finally be their night- whilst their hosts will be happy with a repeat of the last meeting between the sides, a two-one win due to a pair of Michael Bareck goals in February.
