With the Rams playing tomorrow, can Bridges ramp up the pressure?

By Ian Townsend

Three Bridges host a local derby, Sittingbourne welcome Merstham, The Millers and Ites are at the Sussex seaside, whilst Sevenoaks and Hythe look to get back into the top five

With leaders Ramsgate taking on Erith & Belvedere on Sunday, second place Three Bridges have the chance to match the Rams points total as they welcome East Grinstead Town for an A264 derby. Bridges have scored fourteen goals in their last three matches and should be full of confidence, whilst the Wasps are struggling for consistency, but have had some fine moments and will be looking to bounce straight back from defeat at Sheppey last time out. Bridges beat their local rivals two-one back in September, but that was their first victory over Town in seven attempts.

Third place Sittingbourne are looking to climb to second, but to do that they’ll have to defeat Merstham and hope that Three Bridges lose. The Brickies have been superb in defence- only Ramsgate have been better- and have only one defeat in ten matches, whilst their opponents are four without a win, and start the day in fifteenth spot. The Brickies defeated the Moatsiders one-nil in September, a late Donveive Jones goal the difference.

Cray Valley PM, our only unbeaten side, are on the road to the Sussex seaside as they travel to Littlehampton Town. The Millers are having a superb campaign and are seven points behind the leaders with two games in hand, whilst the Golds are sixteenth, and reeling from being hit for six by Sheppey on Tuesday night. With only two wins from ten they’ll have to be at their best if they are to get back to winning ways today- but they did take a point from the Millers in October, and were unlucky not to take all three.

Fifth place Sheppey United are five unbeaten- with four clean sheets- and take some impressive form to Sussex to take on Lancing today. The Lancers, who start the day in eighth, have also been in fine form having taken thirteen points from the last fifteen available, and will be looking for a little revenge, having lost three-nil to the Ites in October- and indeed having lost their last three against these opponents.

Sevenoaks Town will hope to climb back into the top five, but to do it they’ll need to defeat mid table Burgess Hill Town at Greatness Park. The Oaks have lost their way a little, with only one win from five, whilst Hill have become difficult to defeat but are finding victories just as difficult, having drawn their last four. The visitors have only one win from ten, but that win did come against todays opponents, one-nil on October 24th.

Hythe Town, fresh from their Trophy heroics in midweek, welcome Chichester City to Reachfields. City were along the road in Ramsgate in midweek, and that wasn’t a very positive experience for them with a four-nil defeat, which means they’ve now lost their last three. The Cannons, in contrast, have won their last three league matches, have games in hand over almost everyone ahead of them, and are only two points from the top five. They’ll also be looking for revenge, as when the two sides met in September City thrashed them five-nil.

Ashford United, who have slipped to ninth after losing their last two, are on the road to seventeenth spot Phoenix Sports. You never quite know what you’re going to get from either side; the Nuts and Bolts have had a rather inconsistent campaign, whilst Sports have been very good on occasions and dreadful on others. Perhaps their best performance of the season so far came against…Ashford United, when they won five-three at Homelands in mid September.

Herne Bay welcome Horndean to Winch’s Field. Bay find themselves in tenth place after a run of one win- and four draws- in six, whilst their visitors got back to winning ways last time out when thrashing Beckenham Town. Bay won the previous fixture between the sides at Five Heads Park, a comfortable four-two victory, although they did play most of the match against ten men.

Finally, Broadbridge Heath are the hosts for Beckenham Town. The Bears sit just outside the bottom two, three points ahead of Becks, who would need a big win to climb above their opponents as their goal difference is significantly poorer. Heath have only one win- and six defeats- from their last nine matches, whilst their opponents have taken only four points from ten and travel having lost their last three. The Bears are looking to do the double, having won four-nil at Eden Park Avenue in September.
