Back in April 2019, Kelvin Jordan and others at Witham Town were discussing how the club could improve its community provision. What could they offer the local area that didn't currently exist?
From that conversation was born the club's Soccability programme, run by Kelvin- who is the Youth Chair- which aims to provide a fun environment where individuals with additional needs can play sport. It is open to all ages and all abilities, and after starting with two players now regularly has over forty, and has become a real club success story.
There is no charge- and the club even provides tracksuits and kits to the players, with financial help from the local community- although more financial help would be useful, so if you are in the Witham area and would like to help, please get in touch!

Even during lockdown the community work continued. The group couldn’t meet, but as Kelvin had started a WhatsApp group for parents everyone stayed in touch through that. He and the coaches set tasks and competitions for the players, and the parents were able to share images of the children practicing their football skills. The children really enjoyed reading the messages and still being in touch with their friends, and this boosted their morale during a period which was difficult for everyone.
As one of the parents wrote:
'Soccability is not just about football. It is about making friends and having fun. A very family-orientated club with not only fantastic players but absolutely fantastic coaches.'
If you are interested in joining the group, helping the group, or perhaps even providing some sponsorship, then please contact Kelvin by email, here.
Congratulations to all at the club for their inspiring efforts.
