Wonderful Witham cause woe for Stow

By Ian Townsend

Witham Town followed an impressive win on Saturday with EIGHT goals, whilst Brentwood and New Salamis have to settle for a point

Witham Town shocked promotion chasing Felixstowe at the weekend, but the shock they delivered against Stowmarket Town last night was arguably even bigger. Yes, Stow have struggled this season and were still looking for their first victory, but they were thoroughly dismantled by a Witham side who scored four goals in each half to leave their fans looking both delighted and rather stunned- yes, James Beardwell and co, we’ve watched your video!

Goal number one arrived on two minutes, Josh Osude making it two in two games since his return, and on nineteen minutes Jeffrey Cobblah got his eighth of the season to make it two-nil. Luke Ige made it three-nil on the half hour, before Osude added another just before the break.

Into the second half, and within two minutes Cobblah had added a fifth. Rowan Dorling made it six-nil with twenty one minutes left, and in the last five minutes of the match with the visitors hoping for mercy, they got none, substitute Andrew Cesay making it seven. On eighty seven minutes we got number eight, Ige becoming the third player to record a brace.

Witham climb to thirteenth, whilst Stow must try and find a way to pick themselves up for their trip to high-flying Basildon United on Saturday.

Only leaders Lowestoft Town had taken more points from their previous ten matches than Brentwood Town, and the Blues hoped to narrow the gap between themselves and the Trawler Boys to five points with victory against New Salamis- but the visitors had other ideas. The Blues looked to be well on their way to a fifth successive victory when Shad Ngandu put them ahead on thirteen minutes, but the visitors struck back five minutes into the second half, Christos Batzelis earning them a point.

A note to our clubs- if you believe that any of the goals scored by your side was worthy of consideration for the 'Goal of the Month Award,' please feel free to upload it now using the link you were sent, don't feel that you have to wait until the end of the month!
