A Final- North- Countdown!
We’ve still got excitement at both ends of the Pitching In Isthmian North table
Barring something of a mathematical miracle, Maldon and Tiptree will lift the title-winners trophy at Walthamstow on Saturday. The Jammers are three points clear of second place Felixstowe and Walton United with just one match to go, and have a goal difference fifteen better than the Seasiders, so even if they lose to the East Londoners and Felixstowe defeat Mildenhall Town the goal difference swing would need to be rather dramatic if the champions-elect aren’t to be crowned champions!
That match between Felixstowe and Mildenhall is perhaps more important at the other end of the table. Hall need to win it to have any chance of staying up, and that will need to be coupled with a Takeley defeat against Wroxham for them to survive. The Yachtsmen will certainly be rather keen to triumph, as they are only a point away from the top five.
Grays Athletic are also mathematically involved in the relegation scrap, as they are also only three points clear of Mildenhall, but with a goal difference eleven better it would take some unprecedented drama for them to end up in the bottom four. They travel to Gorleston.
Downham Town, Heybridge Swifts and Brantham Athletic have already seen relegation confirmed.
The battle for the last remaining Play Off place is more than intriguing. We know that Maldon/Felixstowe and Waltham Abbey will be home Semi-Finalists, and that Stanway Rovers will be travelling to face the Abbotts, but at this point any one of four sides could take fifth place- and three of them are separated only by goal difference.
Bowers and Pitsea currently occupy fifth spot, and they travel to Newmarket Town knowing that victory will keep them in it. Redbridge are only behind them on goal difference, and they host Concord Rangers looking to capitalise on any Bowers slip up, whilst Gorleston are the third of the trio on sixty eight points, and they will hope to defeat visitors Grays and pray that both Bowers and the Motormen find themselves in trouble.
If eighth place Wroxham win in Takeley they will need Bowers, Redbridge and Gorleston to each fail to win. Unlikely, perhaps, but possible!
