An East End departure

An East End departure

Sporting Bengal United boss Steve Clark steps down

Sporting Bengal United boss Steve Clark announced his departure- via social media- late on Friday evening. In a positive and amicable statement, the now former boss of the East Londoners explained:

'It is with much regret that my time as First Team Manager of Sporting Bengal has come to a close. The club and players have been a part of my life for the last three years, of which I am extremely proud.

Often, we see in football managers being relieve of their duties, or being sacked for no plausible reason. I am one of the lucky few where this has not been the case. By stepping down I believe it provides the club with the best possible chance of maintaining their status as a Step 4 football club. I believe the club need a new voice, someone to lift the players, and bring a new energy to the changing room - sadly that person cannot be me.

I depart the club with memories that will live long in my life and experiences that will stay with me forever. Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the club for being there on and off the pitch when things were difficult, and forever backing me in the moments when I needed their support. Sporting Bengal is my local club, in my local community – it is part of where I live and where I have grown up. My connection with the club and what we have achieved here will forever be a moment in my life that I am eternally grateful. As I endeavour to impress on my players, football enriches your life, it is more than just a game, it is blessing.

Secondly, I would like to thank all the players past and present (and staff) who made our incredible success possible. I cannot underscore enough how significant their contributions have been on this journey; the demands, the sacrifices, the fallings out and the numerous dressing room dressing downs. All those hours culminating in a story that we can all be very proud of.

Lastly, I want to thank my management team, they are the most important people at a football club. If you've been successful, you will know this! They are the team around the team, and the people you on rely the most. I leave the club in the very capable hands of my assistant manager Blaine, who has shown throughout the season that he is ready for an opportunity of his own. I will be there with him in spirit to the very end, wishing him every success. Thank you for reading, and being part of my journey.

Steven Clark.'

Steve has been in charge of the club since December 2021, and of course oversaw their elevation to our level. Prior to that he spent time in charge at Wingate and Finchley, and, as a player, spent time at West Ham United and, most notably, at Southend United.

A statement from the club followed, and is below:
