Can the K’s stop the runaway Rocks?

Can the K’s stop the runaway Rocks?

Bognor have a seven point lead- but there are only three points between second and tenth! Who will emerge from the chasing pack to hunt down the Rocks? Here’s our Pitching In Isthmian South Central preview

Pitching In Isthmian South Central still has five unbeaten sides as we enter our third month of the campaign, and four of them are in action on Saturday- with the fifth on Sunday.

Leaders Bognor Regis Town saw a five match winning streak ended against AFC Portchester last time out- a goalless draw- and will hope to return to winning ways as they travel to Ashford Town to take on Kingstonian. The K’s last League outing last weekend saw an uncharacteristic hammering in Windsor, but they bounced back from that to score seven in the Velocity Cup in midweek and could climb as high as second could they defeat the Rocks.

AFC Portchester haven’t been able to play on their own patch yet, so their second place is even more impressive- as is the fact that in seven matches they’ve conceded only two goals. The Royals hit the road to play the side five places and two points behind them, Hartley Wintney, the Row five unbeaten.

Third place Winchester City started the campaign like an express train but lately seem to have run out of steam, their last five matches bringing no further victories, their last two ending in defeat. City are back on their own patch with Windsor & Eton making the trip, the visitors with one defeat from five and only two points behind their hosts despite being in tenth place.

Hendon face Westfield. Hendon have drawn their last three after starting the campaign with three wins, so will be rather keen to get back to winning ways, whilst Field have taken ten points from their last four matches and will be aware that victory would take them above their hosts in the table.

Fifth place Jersey Bulls, have created their own pattern, their last six matches W-D-W-D-W-D. On that basis they have either signed a sponsorship deal with WD40 or will expect to win this one, Ascot United making a trip to the Channel Islands. The Yellas ended a four match losing streak with victory over Littlehampton Town last weekend.

Raynes Park Vale, in sixth, travel to the seaside, where they take on fourth from bottom Litttlehampton Town. Vale are searching for a third consecutive win, whilst the Golds have won only once so far this season and will be keen to recover from defeat in Ascot last weekend.

Ashford Town travel to Harrow Borough, fifteenth v thirteenth. Town have looked much improved with one defeat from four, whilst Borough have won two of their last three- but neither side have found any consistency yet.

Moneyfields and Hayes & Yeading United, in fourteenth and twentieth, have not had the start to the season any of us would have expected- although United would point out that they’ve played only four League matches so far, as many as five fewer than the sides above them! The two meet in West London, Hayes playing their first League fixture since September 15th’s defeat in Cobham, whilst the Moneys have won their last two and would like to make that a hat trick.

Egham Town look to have found their form, their last three matches a five-nil walloping of Ascot United, a two-nil win against Step Three opposition, and a three-three draw against Jersey Bulls in midweek that they’ll still be scratching their heads over, three-one up after sixteen minutes and playing against ten men for the last half hour. The Sarnies are at home to an AFC Stoneham side who are still looking for a first league win of the campaign and are playing their third away match in a row, having drawn the last two.

Bottom side Binfield host sixteenth place Bedfont Sports, seven points between them. The Moles have played ten matches in all competitions so far and have only one draw to show for their efforts, with nine defeats; whilst Sports have lost three in a row and will hope to win for the first time since August Bank Holiday Monday.

Sunday sees undefeated Southall host Cobham- at Uxbridge. The All come into the match having played only five League matches, significantly fewer than most of the sides around them as their FA Cup and FA Trophy exploits have rather got in the way, but will now have the chance to concentrate on the bread and butter and climb into the top seven. Their visitors have lost three in a row and will be rather keen to halt their slide- although they are only behind their hosts on goal difference as the sides kick off.
