FA Cup round-up | 29 Isthmian League sides advance as road to Wembley begins
The FA Cup returned over the weekend, with the majority of Step 4 Isthmian League sides in action.
In total, 29 Isthmian representatives advanced to the next round over the weekend, while 15 were knocked out.
They were joined by a further three Isthmian sides, who won their respective replays on Tuesday night to reach the preliminary round.
The all-Isthmian tie between Steyning Town and Erith Town produced a remarkable 10 goals - the joint-most of any extra preliminary round tie.
James Miles and Deven Reid-Solanki both scored first-half doubles for Erith, who led 4-1 at the break.
Despite seeing a fifth go in early in the second half, Steyning scored either side of the hour to give themselves a glimmer of hope, only for substitutes Jonas Petkevicius and Tyler Anderson to come off the bench and score goals six and seven for Erith to see them advance.
There were three other all-Isthmian ties in the extra preliminary round.
The first came on Friday night as Kingstonian of the Isthmian South Central eased past South East side Hastings United 4-1.
On Saturday, Cambridge City were 4-1 winners at Lowestoft Town, while Merstham and Raynes Park Vale played out an entertaining 3-3 draw and will go again on Tuesday night.
Elsewhere, there were big wins for Mulbarton Wanderers, who defeated Lakenheath 6-0, and Crowborough Athletic, who defeated Guernsey 5-0.
All advancing Isthmian sides will be joined in the preliminary round by the small cohort of Step 4 clubs not involved in the extra preliminary round.
The next round of the competition will take place on the weekend of Saturday 22 August.
