FA Trophy round-up | 10 sides progress on thrilling weekend of knockout football

A total of 10 Isthmian League sides have booked their spot in the second round of the FA Trophy, after an enthralling weekend of knockout football.

Three of the seven all-Isthmian ties were decided by penalties.

One of those games saw Erith Town stage a late comeback against Burgess Hill Town, coming from 3-1 down to force penalties.

In the shootout, Burgess Hill scored all five of their spot-kicks, while their goalkeeper, Roco Rees, saved Erith's second penalty.

Penalties were far less flawless at Fletcham Grove, where Eastbourne Borough advanced at the expense of Step 3 rivals Leatherhead.

The Tanners, like Erith, had to come from two goals behind to force spot-kicks.

Unfortunately, they scored just one of five in the shootout, meaning Eastbourne advanced after converting two of their four.

A six-goal thriller was played out as Whitehawk advanced at St Albans City's expense.

In a game which saw the lead change hands three times, a late St Albans penalty when they were 3-2 down was saved, but the follow-up was put away to take the tie the distance.

The Hawks prevailed 4-3 though, securing the win against a Saints side currently 10 places above them in the Isthmian Premier table.

The other four all-Isthmian ties were won by Aveley, Dartford, Hashtag United and Newmarket Town.

Having already enjoyed a deep run to the FA Cup first round proper, with their upcoming game against League One Stockport County selected for TV coverage, Cray Wanderers also advanced to the next round of this competition.

The Wands defeated Berkhamsted 2-1 away from home, with all three goals coming inside the final 15 minutes.

To settle the tie, it took a moment of individual quality from Alfie Payne, who lobbed the Berkhamsted goalkeeper from inside his own half.

Elsewhere, Enfield Town hit five at home to Hanworth Villa to reach the next round.

Wingate & Finchley were victorious away at Needham Market, running out 2-0 winners thanks to goals in either half from Gianluca Botti.

There were heavy defeats, however, for Egham Town and Takeley at home to Uxbridge and Chertsey Town respectively.

Hastings United were also knocked out after losing 3-2 at home to Waltham Abbey.

Trailing 3-2 at half-time, Hastings did well to force a grandstand finish thanks to goals from Kesna Clarke and Sam Pidgeon, but couldn't find the all-important third.

The draw for the next round will be released on Monday.

All sides at Step 2 (National League North/South) will enter the competition at this stage.
