Five Alive!

Bowers and Walthamstow hit five, and the Jockeys go third- whilst Grays win in the Cup

Bowers and Pitsea picked up their first home League win of the season- and they did so in some style, sweeping aside the challenge of Mildenhall Town. Joe Burton headed home a corner to give the hosts the lead midway through the first half, and six minutes before the break Mike Faulkner made it two. Only two minutes later the Len Salmon faithful were treated to a third, Kai Redgrave with that one, and after the break Faulkner took charge, adding a fourth on the hour and completing his hat trick from the spot nine minutes later. Bowers climb to eleventh.

Walthamstow travelled to Witham Town for an encounter which we expected to be closely fought- but as it turned out it was anything but close, although the hosts contributed to their own downfall. Jordan Peart put Stow ahead as early as the fourth minute, and a quarter of an hour later Gassem Benelghazi made it two. The hosts then had skipper Ryan Mallett dismissed, and the visitors soon had a third, Rasheed Salau scoring just before the break.

Just after the break Stow made it four, Benelghazi once more, and the fifth came from Brian Garzon on the hour. There the scoring stopped, Walthamstow up to tenth.

Newmarket Town have had an impressive start to the campaign, and they climbed to third with victory over Heybridge Swifts.

Swifts went ahead on fourteen minutes, Sam Adeyeye silencing the home crowd, but a spot kick from Oscar Dean drew the Jockeys level ten minutes or so later, and the next significant action also involved Adeyeye, but his contribution on this occasion wasn’t quite so positive, a red card ending his participation. That left Swifts with an hour to hold on with ten men, and they couldn’t manage it, Josh Lee scoring the winner twelve minutes into the second half.

In the Velocity Cup First Round, Concord Rangers had a fine start as they welcomed Grays Athletic, Harrison Day opening the scoring after only two minutes. That was as good as it got for the Beachboys. On fifty eight minutes Lewis Clark levelled for Athletic, fifteen minutes later Joe Paxman put them ahead, and seven minutes from time Jayden Silcott-Brown added a Grays third, sealing a comfortable victory.
