Friday Night entertainment galore!
Sports, Bridges and Millers are starting the weekend early
It’s Friday, and we have football- not a phrase we can use all that often, but on this occasion we head to the FA Trophy and to Pitching In Isthmian South Central.
New Aveley boss Alex Akrofi gets a first look at his Millers as they welcome Pitching In Southern Division One side Ware. Aveley have hit something of a slump, losing three in a row in League and Cup, and the new manager will want to quickly put a halt to their slide and will hope this gives him the perfect chance. Ware have had a poor start to their League campaign and sit second bottom and without a win- although that doesn’t tell the entire story. They have actually lost only two of their five League matches, and have already defeated three sets of Isthmians in knockout competitions, with Brightlingsea Regent, Fakenham Town and AFC Sudbury falling by the wayside.
Three Bridges have had a rather mixed start to their season. Only five clubs in our top flight have scored more goals than the Crawley side, but they have conceded significantly more than anyone else- an average of more than three a match- so it’s fairly easy to see where the problems lie. They hit the road- indeed it will be trying journey on a Friday evening- to Biggleswade, their hosts in fifth place and unbeaten in Pitching In Southern Division One Central. The hosts knocked out Little Oakley and one of our former clubs, Potters Bar Town, to reach this stage.
Back in League action, Bedfont Sports will hope to put their Wednesday night walloping at Kingstonian quickly behind them as they host Jersey Bulls at the end of the airport. With one win in six in all competitions Sports haven’t been in the best of form of late, whilst Bulls may be mid table but hold an unbeaten League record so far; indeed the only side to defeat them has been top flight Burgess Hill Town in a Cup replay.
