Golds see relegation confirmed

Littlehampton Town complete the relegated quartet in Pitching In Isthmian South Central

Littlehampton Town hosted Hayes & Yeading United last night- a match hastily rearranged behind closed doors after some unnecessary shenanigans on Saturday- and a legion of home fans remained glued to social media awaiting updates. What they read won’t have brought much joy.

The Golds had to win. Victory would have taken them to within one point of eighteenth place Hendon, anything else would see them go into Saturday’s final match of the season at Horndean with hope already departed- and as it transpired that hope departed on twenty three minutes. A long ball over the top, Brendan Matthew running onto it, and his eleventh goal of the season looked inevitable- and was.

Hayes held onto that lead despite home pressure for the rest of the match. Efforts from the Golds went wide, or over, and some stout defending kept them at bay- and saw their Isthmian spell come to an end.

Hayes and Yeading are ninth- and end the campaign at home to Hartley Wintney on Saturday. Victory could lift them as high as seventh.

Littlehampton will sadly leave us along with Met Police, Horndean and Fareham Town. Good luck to all four teams next season- we hope to see you back soon.
