Hastings hope to hit the summit
With most of our sides in Cup action, Hastings United have the chance to go top of Pitching In Isthmian South East- and a draw would do! Here’s our preview of the action
We’ve only three Pitching In Isthmian South East matches this weekend, as almost everyone is elsewhere hoping to take a step closer to Wembley.
Our top match comes from the Green Box Stadium, where Ashford United, who have a one hundred percent record (that sounds a little less impressive when you mention they’ve played only once), welcome third place Hastings United.
Hastings have won both of their matches so far, defeating Croydon Athletic and Eastbourne Town, whilst the victory for the Nuts and Bolts came against another Sussex side, Steyning Town. Both sides, of course, started the campaign with a Cup defeat.
The last three meetings between the sides have ended in victories for the side in green, the last of those coming at Pilot Field in April.
Merstham have only managed one League match so far, a three-three draw against Peacehaven & Telscombe in midweek which saw them come from three goals down at half time to take a point. The Moatsiders are at home for the second time this week, only they aren’t actually at home at all, as they are currently lodging at Sevenoaks Town whilst a new 3G pitch is laid on their own patch. Steyning Town make the trip, the Barrowmen still looking for a first point of the season after starting the campaign with two defeats.
Broadbridge Heath started their campaign with departures from the FA Cup and FA Trophy, before kicking off their League season with a draw against the side who knocked them out of the latter competition, South Park Reigate. The Bears will hope that their first win of the campaign will come against Horley Town, our newcomers having had a poor start to the campaign, losing both of their league fixtures as well as departing the FA Cup against Step Five opposition. It is actually just over two years since the sides last met, an FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie going the way of this weekend’s hosts- Ben Aubrey and Callum Dowdell scoring in a two-one win.
