The Villains qualify for our Promotion Final despite a late Yellas fightback

Hanworth Villa had only two defeats from ten and were four unbeaten, and hoped to reach a second Promotion Final in three years as they hosted Ascot United. The Villains had striker Sam Merson (son of you-know-who) in superb form, with twenty eight goals this season, and Merson was quickly involved as his side took the lead- but the goal had a different scorer. Guy Ansah-Palmer took only two minutes to strike, hammering home a loose ball after a long throw from Merson caused consternation in the away defence. Villa remained on top, and could have made it two seven minutes before half time when Lucas Defise put his shot over the bar. Another chance four minutes later saw Yellas keeper Mark Scott- winner of our Golden Gloves Award earlier today- making a superb save from Ibrahim Jalloh to keep his side in the match.

The second half started with more pressure from the hosts, and on fifty six minutes a foul on Jalloh earned them a penalty. Up stepped Merson, and perhaps the outcome was inevitable, the ball in the bottom corner and the score two-nil, with most of the club record crowd of seven hundred and twenty four ecstatic. Sixteen minutes from time the Villains could have gone further ahead, Jalloh curling a shot just wide, but the next goal went to the visitors, Khalid Simmo getting one back. Unfortunately for the Yellas that goal arrived four minutes into added time, and there was no time for another, so the Villains have another Final to look forward to, travelling to Uxbridge on Sunday.
