Isthmian League round-up | Big win for Chatham, Stanway off the bottom and points shared in Essex

Isthmian League round-up | Big win for Chatham, Stanway off the bottom and points shared in Essex

It was a weekend of eye-catching scorelines in the Isthmian Premier, with the three games played providing no shortage of entertainment.

Towards the top, Welling United missed the chance to climb above league leaders Enfield Town are falling to a 3-2 defeat at Chatham Town.

The Chats' form has been somewhat patchy of late, winning three and losing four of their previous seven in the league heading into Saturday.

But they produced one of their performances of the season so far to overcome the wings, thanks to second-half goals from Brad Stevenson, Kola Salami and Jack Lyons.

Welling puled a goal back twice through Demaray Anyadike and Zak O'Keefe, but they couldn't find a leveller on their travels.

Despite a flawless seven wins from seven at home, a run of two away league wins in six means Ryan Maxwell's side remain in the chasing pack.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Stanway Rovers climbed off the foot of the table with a resounding 3-0 win at home to Cheshunt.

Matthias Fanimo opened the scoring midway through the first half, before a late double from Stephen Toussaint - the second of which came from the penalty spot - made sure of the points.

The final game of the afternoon at Step 3 saw Maldon & Tiptree and Dulwich Hamlet share the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Charlee Hughes' 41st minute penalty gave the Jammers the lead at half-time, but they were pegged back early in the second half by David Smith's equaliser.

The hosts came closest to grabbing a winner but couldn't find a way past Hudson Sands, with the game ending level in Essex.

Results - Saturday 24 October

  • Chatham Town 3-2 Welling United
  • Maldon & Tiptree 1-1 Dulwich Hamlet
