Isthmian League round-up | Carshalton go three points clear as winning start continues
Carshalton Athletic clinched a battling 2-1 win over Stanway Rovers to maintain their 100% winning start in the Isthmian Premier.
The Robins trailed early through a smart Sherquan Toussaint finish, but a Jack Jebb penalty and a Prince Kandolo header 10 minutes into the second half were enough to collect three points for Steven Bates’ men at the Kingdom Stadium.
A third defeat in a row for Rovers, following a 0-0 draw on the opening day, leaves them second-bottom with only one point.
The only side below Stanway in the table are newly-promoted Three Bridges, who are still yet to get off the mark after a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Aveley.
Their bleak start to the season continued in front of a home crowd at Jubilee Field.
A Toby Aromolaran double put Aveley 2-0 up inside 38 minutes. However, forward Hayden Velvick gave the hosts hope when he halved the deficit just after the interval.
That hope was short-lived, however, as Ollie Peters’ penalty, a Chris Harris header and Zaid Al Hussaini’s deflected effort ensured the contest ended 5-1 in favour of the Millers.
Responding well to a 2-1 home defeat to Dartford last weekend, Maldon & Tiptree also won in comprehensive fashion at Leatherhead - all the more significant given the hosts had yet to lose a league game this season prior to Saturday afternoon.
Anas Igozouln smashed home to cancel out Ibby Akandi’s opener on the stroke of half-time, but three late goals meant the Jammers completed a 4-1 triumph to climb to 12th. Leatherhead, on the contrary, slip outside the play-off spots and down to eighth.
Sitting just below the Jammers in 13th are St Albans City, who were soundly beaten by Ramsgate.
Billy Munday, Callum Jones, Rowan Liburd and Bivesh Gurung were on the scoresheet for the Rams, who sit in 11th with two wins and two losses.
Jones also maintained his impressive streak of scoring in every Isthmian Premier appearance this season, including a brace against Stanway Rovers.
Despite suffering a loss apiece so far this campaign, the trio of Enfield Town, Welling United and Chatham Town kept up ground with early leaders Carshalton Athletic following excellent victories on the road.
Enfield Town completed a 3-1 victory at highly-touted Brentwood Town, courtesy of Sam Youngs and Amrit Bansal-McNulty, either side of a somewhat fortuitous own-goal.
Meanwhile, Ryan Maxwell’s Welling side came out 3-0 victors at Dartford to end their 100% winning start.
Chatham Town also won by the same scoreline at Whitehawk thanks to a James Wild brace, before a spectacular own-goal rounded off the scoring in the 88th minute.
Over at Flamingo Park, Eastbourne Borough missed out on golden opportunity to climb to second after losing 2-1 to Cray Wanderers.
It was simply a case of ‘too little, too late’ when T’yano Wilson scored a stoppage-time consolation goal in response to Ade Yusuff’s lobbed strike and a stunning Alex Hernandez free-kick.
The result is a crucial first win of the season for Tim O’Shea’s Wands side, who sit 15th with five points to their name so far.
The same can be said for Wingate & Finchley, who secured their first win of the 2026/27 campaign with a 1-0 triumph over Dulwich Hamlet at the Maurice Rebak Stadium.
Anointed Chukwu’s 65th minute effort was enough to separate the hosts from Mark Dacey’s side. The Hamlet have now lost both away games this season, while winning both at home without conceding a goal (6-0 and 2-0 victories).
After conceding an early opener at the Dripping Pan, hosts Lewes confirmed back-to-back victories with a 3-1 triumph over struggling AFC Whyteleafe.
Josh Spinks responded to Ryan Gondoh’s opener with a 16th minute header, before Danny Bassett put them ahead just before half-time when he stabbed home a rebound from a penalty.
It was then up to winger Noel Fisher to seal victory in the dying minutes as his cool finish slotted past Leafe keeper Slav Huk. As Lewes climb to ninth, AFC Whyteleafe remain in the relegation zone in 20th place.
Finally, over in Hertfordshire, Cheshunt played out the only draw of the afternoon with Burgess Hill Town.
The Hillians took the lead thanks to Shamir Fenelon’s first goal for the club, but were left to rue missed opportunities as the hosts fought back in the second half.
Forward Tommy Wood then headed home for James Elliott’s side against his former club to equalise in the 78th minute, with neither side able to find a winner in the time that remained.
