Moatsiders heartbreak after shootout drama

Merstham fall to defeat on penalties in the Surrey Senior Cup Final

Merstham travelled to Meadowbank, home of National League South promotion hopefuls Dorking Wanderers, hoping to return as Surrey Senior Cup Champions- but the night ended with heartbreak. The Moatsiders were the underdogs, facing a Farnham Town side who are fighting for promotion at the top of Pitching In Southern Premier, but they gave their highly-celebrated opponents a real scare.

After a goalless first half with few chances, the Moatsiders took the lead nine minutes into the second half. Korrey Henry was their hero, his deflected effort too much for Michael Eacott in the Farnham goal- but they weren't ahead for too long, Jack Dean heading home a corner twenty minutes from time.

Thirty more minutes were played- including ten minutes of added time- and then the match went to spot kicks. The first nine penalties were converted successfully, the tenth was saved by Eacott, and Farnham were able to lift the trophy for the first time in their history.

Commiserations to the Moatsiders, who performed magnificently. You can watch the entire match below- forward to thirty one minutes for kick off.
