Oaks and K’s are our Wednesday winners

Sevenoaks pick up three South East points, Kingstonian win in the Cup, whilst it’s all square and all square in the North
Sevenoaks Town welcomed Sittingbourne in Pitching In Isthmian South East, Oaks looking to end a run which had seen them lose eight of their previous nine, the travelling Brickies to make it four wins from five- and to climb to sixth place. The first half had little to shout about, and then, on fifty five minutes, Aaron Jenkins put the Oaks ahead, his shot taking a deflection which deceived keeper Mitchell Beeney and ended up in the back of the net.
It was all hands to the pumps for the home defence after that, Sittingbourne working hard to get back on level terms, forcing saves from Jordan Perrin and having a goal disallowed for offside. The pressure continued, chances came and went without being taken whilst the home fans chewed at their fingernails, and then, a minute from time, a second yellow card for Kevin Diomande meant that Town were down to ten men- with seven minutes of added time to see out.
Seven minutes became nine, and the visitors continued to pour forward, but finally the whistle went and the Oaks army were able to celebrate!
Sevenoaks climb to sixteenth, whilst the Brickies remain in tenth spot- four points away from the top five with two games in hand.
In Pitching In Isthmian North we had two matches, and they resulted in two draws.
Gorleston were hoping to defeat Walthamstow and climb into the top three, but in the end they had to come from behind to grab a late point. Stow’s Brian Garzon had scored in two of his previous three matches, and he made it three goals in four- and six for the season- by opening the scoring on fourteen minutes. The visitors had gone five without a win, and it looked like they might end that run and take three points, but with eighteen minutes to go Harley Black delivered a perfect free kick for Zach Dronfield to head home, and that was that so far as goals were concerned. The Greens did go down to ten men deep in added time, skipper Joe Jefford departing slightly early, but there was no time for the visitors to take advantage.
Gorleston remain fourth- six points clear of fifth place Bowers and Pitsea- whilst Walthamstow are sixteenth, their six match winless run now including four draws.
Second bottom Downham Town were the hosts for Tilbury, the Dockers three points and two places better off. Town were hoping to end a run which had seen them lose their previous four league matches, whilst the Dockers were on their best run of the season, four unbeaten in League and Cups. We had to wait nearly an hour for an opening goal, and when it arrived it came from the spot, Tobias Braney holding his nerve for the visitors. The lead lasted only nine minutes, Eoin Mcquaid replying for Downham, and the scoring stopped there.
A point lifts the Dockers out of the bottom four, whilst their hosts remain unmoved, three points from safety- or, to put it another way, three points behind their visitors.
We also had a match in the Velocity Cup Second Round, and it saw a much changed Kingstonian side welcome an even more changed Three Bridges outfit, which perhaps demonstrated what both sides priorities are this season. The K’s ran out comfortable winners.
Kingstonian took the lead after only eight minutes, Yoan Edoukou making the breakthrough, and the same player made it two eighteen minutes later. A third goal arrived just after the break, Arsen Ujkaj leaving the hosts in a rather comfortable position, and they soon added a fourth, Lorenzo Strachan putting them out of sight. By the time the K’s final goal arrived their visitors were down to ten men, Connor Hayden-Pickering dismissed, but Bridges did manage a late consolation, George Falzon getting them onto the scoreboard.
That was that, four-one the final score.
