Pitching In Isthmian Supporters Predictions 26-27: Cobham
Roland Johnson introduces Cobham, who made him slightly unhappy by "not quite hitting 100 points" last season!'
We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-22 will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off. Roland Johnson introduces us to our South Central new kids- and it's fair to say that he rather enjoyed last season!
Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?
So many highlights! Winning the league and cup double and getting to step 4 for the first time. Ryan Marklew's triple hat-trick in the cup. Plus beating conference big-hitters Woking under the lights at Kingfield in the Surrey Senior Cup with a screamer from Nic Osborne. What a season!
And what was the worst moment?
I guess losing the semi at home to Merstham when we were pushing for the treble. And not quite hitting 100 points in the league.
Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?
Patrick Murray. A direct winger who love taking on the full back and getting to the line to deliver quality crosses, and a scorer of some fantastic goals too.
Moving on to your current squad - which players do you think will make a big impact during the 26/27 campaign?
I think all the squad are more than capable of proving they can play at step 4, and all of them will make an impact on this coming season.
Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?
I feel a good season will see Cobham 8th, I'm confident our promotion winners can hold their own with the big boys. Even better if they could push for the play-offs!
If you could choose a song for your side to run our to, what would it be- and why?
Cobham run out to Welcome To The Jungle by Guns and Roses, which is great. But You Can't Touch This by MC Hammer with its 'Stop, Hammer Time' line would be good for us Hammers. Maybe we could have that for our goal celebrations?
From all the opposition players you watched last season, which one would you love to see in your side- and why?
From the Combined Counties, with all due respect to all the players we came up against i don't feel any would of improved us, There was a stand-out performance by the Redhill keeper who made some worldie saves to earn a draw - not many teams took points from us at home last season. But now we've made the step up, we're looking forward to seeing some top talent - though whether they're good enough to get in our team remains to be seen!
What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?
Watching Cobham overseas when we faced Jersey Bulls in the Combined Counties was a highlight. Jersey away, ole, ole! Really felt welcomed, the fans bought us a pint in their home pub, and even interviewed me for their YouTube channel. Going up to the Isthmian, there are some cracking new grounds to visit. Just a shame Ks are no longer at Kingsmeadow.
If you travelled away, which ground served the best food?
I was looking forward to another Blues Burger at Met Police - so it was a shame they got relegated! But the Hammer burger is a must-try when you visit the Reggie!
Please predict your top five:
AFC Portchester
Hayes and Yeading Utd
Jersey Bulls
AFC Stoneham
Kingstonian
