Pitching In Isthmian Supporters Predictions 26-27: Crowborough Athletic
George Corrie takes on the role of the Crow Man
We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome.
Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?
Last season was an absolute roller coaster. My favourite moment was beating Margate 3-1 away from home. We were 1-0 up at half time thanks to a Jack Lyons free kick. About 10 seconds in to the second half, we went down to 10 men after a long ball caused confusion and Charlie Paye got sent off for a last man tackle. Margate then scored from the free kick to make it 1-1. But then, straight after kick off, Harry Forster scored a wonderful goal to put us 2-1 up. The rest of the half was painful to watch as Margate had all of the possession and were constantly firing shots at Martin Grant in goal. This was until Elliot Duncan scored in the last minute to make it 3-1 to Crowborough.
And what was the worst moment?
AFC Whytleafe away. It was a fairly even 1st half with both teams having chances but we were 1-0 down. In the 2nd half, Crowborough heads dropped and the floodgates opened. Whytleafe scored a further 7 goals in the second half with 3 of them being in injury time. Full time score, 8-0.
Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?
Harry Forster. He is a special player who has the ability to completely turn a game on its head. I also think that Tom Boddy has a shout as well. He is a reliable centre back who was crucial to us staying up. Unfortunately, he retired after last season, having played over 650 games for Crowborough. A true club legend.
Moving on to your current squad - which players do you think will make a big impact during the 26/27 campaign?
We have a young team so there are plenty of players who I am excited to see next season. One of them is young midfielder, Alfie Lambden. He was in our team that got promoted and he's been getting better and better every season.
Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?
I think that we will finish around midtable this season. Last season, we were expected to finish rock bottom and we proved the doubters wrong. I think that we are going to be more consistent with our results this year.
If you could choose a song for your side to run our to, what would it be- and why?
For me it would be 'This is the One’ by the Stone Roses. They use this song at Old Trafford. It's a great song and it helps build an atmosphere.
From all the opposition players you watched last season, which one would you love to see in your side- and why?
The 2 standout players from other teams last season were Tommie Fagg for Faversham and Jacob Lambert for Sheppey. For such a tall player, Tommie Fagg is very good on the ball. Jacob played for us a few years ago so we already know how good he is. He scored 3 against us last season, including a brilliant free kick.
What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?
I really liked Ashford’s ground when we went there last autumn. It is huge and very modern. The price on the gate was cheap as well. Shout out to Hastings Uniteds ground. I like how old fashioned it is.
If you travelled away, which ground served the best food?
Margate did some good food when I went. Can't wait to try it again.
Please predict your top five:
Croydon Athletic
Cray Valley PM (play off winners)
Faversham Town
Herne Bay
Sittingbourne
