The title race heats up- and our fight against the drop seems to involve half of the division!

It’s tense, it’s nervous, and we suspect it’s giving many managers a headache. Here’s our Pitching In Isthmian South Central preview

Our pacesetters, Moneyfields, hold a two point lead at the top, but the Moneys have played significantly more matches than the sides in pursuit so can’t afford to relax, particularly as they are traveling to take on fourth place Hanworth Villa. The Villians are seven points behind their visitors, albeit with two games in hand, and their seven match unbeaten run, whilst impressive, has included four draws. The Moneys are looking for a fourth win in a row, and a third clean sheet.

Villa won their first encounter of the campaign by its only goal.

Second place Westfield are two points away from the summit with a rather incredible five games in hand. Field are heading to the seaside to take on a Bognor Regis Town side who parted company with their manager earlier this week, the Rocks with one win in six. Westfield are, in contrast, looking for a fifth win in a row, and have only one defeat from nine. The sides have already met twice this season in League and Trophy, the Woking side winning both times.

Leatherhead, our leaders for so long, slipped to third following their midweek defeat at the hands of Moneyfields. The Tanners travel to third bottom Ascot United, and given that their away form is much, much better than their home form they are likely to be quite glad about that. If our table was based on away matches alone Leatherhead would be six points clear at the top- they remain unbeaten on their travels- whilst if it was based only on their performances at Fetcham Grove they would be eleventh, which tells its own story.

Ascot are suffering from a terrible slump. Their last ten matches have brought only two points, and they start the weekend four points from safety.

AFC Portchester, in fifth, have an eight point advantage over sixth place Hayes and Yeading United in the play off chase. The Royals are on the road to Met Police, the boys in blue four points above the drop zone and looking to recover from a four-one hammering by Southall in midweek.

Hayes and Yeading United will be buoyed by their win against Leatherhead last weekend, but they face the challenge of an in-form Kingstonian. The K’s climbed out of the bottom four in midweek and are five unbeaten, whilst that Hayes win at Fetcham Grove followed a run of three defeats.

Harrow Borough have climbed to seventh and are looking for a third successive win and a third successive clean sheet as they travel to bottom side Fareham Town (match being played at Moneyfields FC), the ‘hosts’ twenty two points from safety and hoping to avoid a fourth successive defeat, whilst Raynes Park Vale, in eighth, will hope to get back to winning ways as they welcome South Park Reigate- the Sparks seven without a win and having lost their last three by one goal to nil.

With only six points between nineteenth and ninth none of our mid table sides will yet consider themselves safe. That ninth place side, Bedfont Sports, are at home to Hartley Wintney, the Row two points and yet five places worse off but with three, four, five and even six matches in hand over the sides around them, having managed to play only once since January 10th. Sports have only two defeats from ten so will be confident, whilst the Row have only one win from eight, that win way back on December 13th.

Egham Town, in tenth, host Binfield, the Moles three points further back and three points above the drop zone, despite their being six places between the sides. Binfield have one defeat from ten, whilst the Sarnies are hoping to avoid a third loss in a row- but were in good form prior to the first of those defeats.

Southall have climbed to eleventh after a run of one defeat in nine, and are hoping for a fourth win in succession as they travel to second bottom Horndean. The Deans have lost their last three, each of them heavily, and are fourteen points from safety- although they do have four games in hand.

We have a massive match on the Sussex coast, as Littlehampton Town, two points above the drop zone in eighteenth, host the side directly behind them, Hendon. The Golds have gone seven without a win- albeit including four draws; whilst the Londoners have lost three in a row, and indeed four of their last five.
