Towners head to Sussex, where the injury-hit Hillians stand in their way
We’ve another exciting Pitching In Isthmian Premier Saturday in prospect. Here’s our preview
Leaders Enfield Town travel to Burgess Hill Town hoping to protect or increase their one point advantage. The Hillians were defeated in St Albans on Tuesday night perhaps because they had only a dozen fit senior players, so their chances may depend on the number who escape the treatment room, but they are unbeaten on their own patch; whilst the North Londoners, who are undefeated on the road, have only one defeat from ten.
Second place Welling United have a perfect record on their own patch- eight wins from eight- which perhaps will trouble visitors Carshalton Athletic, who have only two wins from ten despite their seventh place, and have taken only one point from their last five. That said, the Robins have taken more points on the road than at home this season.
Lewes start the weekend in third, the Rooks looking to go five unbeaten as they welcome Wingate and Finchley, their visitors looking to continue a good run of their own and win a fourth successive League match. Lewes haven’t defeated the Blues in six attempts.
Eastbourne Borough have climbed to fourth place after winning six League matches in succession, and will hope for a lucky seven as Ramsgate swap seasides. The Rams have won three of their last four and make the trip in good form- and are only one point and one place behind their hosts.
Dartford have a relatively short trip- although we suspect having to use the Dartford Tunnel may make it seem rather a lot longer- as they travel to Aveley. The fifth place Darts have lost three of their last four, whilst the Millers have only one win from seven, so both will be hoping for a return to form. Dartford took four points from the Millers last season.
Chatham Town start the weekend in eighth and will hope to quickly put their four goal hammering at the hands of Enfield Town behind them, but they will be dismayed to be back in the Towners neighbourhood as they travel just a few minutes further north to take on Cheshunt. The Ambers are sixteenth, three points above the drop zone, and have been our draw specialists so far, with six draws from fourteen. Town have won the last six meetings between the sides.
Dulwich Hamlet returned to winning ways at Whitehawk in midweek and will hope to continue in the same manner as they travel to AFC Whyteleafe, their hosts hoping to rediscover the form that saw them win three in a row before defeat against Burgess Hill Town in their last match.
St Albans City are two points away from seventh place but have five games in hand over the side currently occupying that spot, and travel to Whitehawk with a six match unbeaten League record to defend. They’ll be rather familiar with their destination, as they were at the Enclosed Ground last Saturday in the FA Trophy for a match they lost on penalties- so an early chance on revenge. The Hawks have only one League win this season, and are eight points from safety.
Brentwood Town welcome Cray Wanderers, two great FA Cup success stories facing each other- and the visitors will want to ensure that they aren’t distracted by their impending televised FA Cup First Round tie, which by the way sold out in ten minutes! The Blues are thirteenth and have won five of their last six, whilst Wands are fourth from bottom but have played as many as SEVEN matches fewer than the sides above them due to their Cup exploits. They’ve only one win from four in the League.
Leatherhead, in fourteenth, lost their first away League match since the end of the 24-25 season as they were narrowly defeated in Welling on Tuesday. The Tanners are back on their own patch, second bottom Stanway Rovers making the trip. Leatherhead have only one win from six and will want to stop the rot, whilst Rovers ended a four match losing streak by defeating Cheshunt last weekend and will want to build on that.
Maldon and Tiptree, in eighteenth, play host to the side two places behind them, Three Bridges. The Jammers were three unbeaten until defeat in midweek, whilst Bridges have lost five of their last ten, winning only twice.
