United finally break their duck!

Punjab United welcomed promotion-chasing AFC Croydon Athletic in Pitching In Isthmian South East last night- and it was the Rams, who were hoping to bounce back from an FA Trophy hammering at the hands of Waltham Abbey on Saturday, who were left miserable for a second consecutive match. 

A win for Athletic would have taken them to second place- a substantial win could have taken them top- and with United still looking for a first win of the campaign the Rams would have travelled with some confidence of success, but they were undone twice during the first half of the first half. On six minutes Sam Wood struck a beautiful free kick to put the hosts ahead, and the visitors didn't accept that warning. United struck the bar on the quarter hour mark and doubled their lead six minutes after that, another free kick and Wayne Bushell this time the player who made the difference; the side continuing to show the improvement that saw them come from two down to take a point at Margate on Saturday. 

Half time arrived with the score still two-nil, but in the second half the visitors finally began to get a foothold in the match, and it was rewarded with a goal twenty minutes from time, a Josh Williams effort coming back to Brandon Pierrick, who halved the arrears. Sadly for the travelling fans that goal was immediately followed by a red card for substitute David Bremang, who had been on the field for only a quarter of an hour, and whilst the ten men did their best the hosts held on for a fantastic three points- their first Step Four win. 

Athletic stay third, whilst United climb to twenty first- only goal difference keeping them inside the bottom four.
