Wanderers and City have more giants to face- and we’ve drama in the League, too!
It’s a big weekend of Cup and Pitching In Isthmian North action- here’s our preview
Emirates FA Cup
Cambridge City have won their last six matches on their own patch, and will be full of confidence as Alvechurch of Pitching In Isthmian Premier Central come to call. The visitors are having a good season, in fourth place and with only one League defeat so far; although they have gone three without a win in all competitions.
Mulbarton Wanderers reward for finally seeing off Woodford Town in midweek is a home tie against Gloucester City and perhaps a second record crowd this week. Wanderers have delivered some fine performances this season, whilst their visitors have had only one Pitching In Southern Premier win from nine, although to put that another way have one defeat from seven in all competitions.
North
New Pitching In Isthmian North leaders Gorleston will hope to make it five League wins in a row as they travel to Bowers and Pitsea- but their fifth place hosts will have rather different plans. The travelling Greens may need a victory to hold onto top spot, whilst Bowers are six unbeaten and looking for a fourth consecutive win of their own.
Second place Hashtag United host an Essex derby against Buckhurst Hill. The Tags have only one defeat all season- but are three without a win; whilst their visitors have won three and lost three so far but have shown some fine form in patches and will expect to put up a strong show.
Third place Wroxham also have a chance of top spot, the Yachtsmen starting the weekend three points behind the leaders. They welcome twelfth place Little Oakley, and are looking to get back to winning ways after taking only one point from their last three matches. Their visitors won five-nil in Lowestoft last time out, but have had to wait a week and a half to follow that.
Fourth place Redbridge travel to take on Tilbury, the Dockers down in seventeenth spot. Redbridge have been kicking their heels since their four-two defeat of Takeley on September 22nd, whilst the Dockers haven’t hard the start they might have hoped for, with only two wins from eight so far. They have only lost once on their own patch, however.
Concord Rangers, in sixth, have lost only one League match so far, but it was their last one- and they have since made it two defeats in a row, losing in the Velocity Cup on Monday. Prior to that the Beachboys were in fine form, and they welcome Walthamstow hoping to return to winning ways. The visitors are looking for a third consecutive win, and will hope they didn’t use up their entire goal allocation when hitting Lowestoft for nine last time out!
Newmarket Town have been on a blistering run, with six wins in a row in League and Cups, and our seventh place side will hope to make that lucky seven as Grays Athletic make the trip. Athletic have lost their last three, and indeed have only one win from nine in all competitions.
Felixstowe and Walton United have had a rather inconsistent campaign so far, and start the weekend one point outside the top seven and seven points behind the leaders. The Seasiders are back on their own patch and face a side who would love some inconsistency, as Canvey Island’s results so far have been consistently poor, third from bottom after only one League win so far. Their last five matches have brought only one positive result, and that a draw.
Lowestoft Town look to be in freefall, their last three matches all ending in defeat and with a total of fifteen goals conceded, none scored. The Trawler Boys will hope that recovery will begin as they host AFC Sudbury, the Yellows five unbeaten and full of confidence after turning around a poor start to the season.
Bottom side Fakenham Town will try for the eighth time to deliver a first win, Witham Town making the trip. Witham got back to winning ways last time out in the League after three defeats- and indeed a Velocity Cup win in midweek means they are looking for a third win in a row in all competitions.
