They were formed in 1919 under the name of Saltisford Rovers and played in various local leagues including the Warwick League, Leamington & District League and the Warwickshire Combination until 1967. During this period the club won a number of honours, including the Birmingham Alliance Senior Cup when they defeated Birmingham City in the final at St. Andrew's.

In 1967 the club joined the West Midlands (Regional) League. Three years later they changed to their current name, inspired by the club's location beside Warwick Racecourse, and soon afterwards switched to the Midland Football Combination, where they were champions in 1988 and runners-up in 1989. Following their runners-up finish, they gained promotion to the Southern League where they remained until 2003, when they finished bottom of the Western Division and were relegated to the Midland Football Alliance. They remained there until the end of the 2008–09 season, when they were relegated to the Midland Football Combination Premier Division, now the Midland Football League Division One.

At the start of the 2016–17 season the club began significant infrastructure improvements following the arrival of local businessman and Chairman Gary Vella and a new committee the previous year. Developments included new changing rooms, floodlighting, covered stands and a 3G artificial training area. The club's record victory is a 15–0 win, recorded on 26 December 2016.

The club gained its first promotion in 30 years in 2018–19 after finishing runners-up in the Midland Football League Division One. During the winter of 2020, a full-size 3G pitch was installed to expand the club's community programme and provide football opportunities for women, disability teams and a wide range of local community groups. The ground is also home to the West Midlands Ambulance Service football team.

Racing Club Warwick reached the final of the 2023–24 Birmingham Senior Cup before losing to Aston Villa U21.

The 2023–24 season also saw the club achieve its second promotion in six seasons after finishing runners-up in the United Counties League Premier Division South. A convincing 4–0 victory over March Town United in the play-off semi-final was followed by a 2–1 win against Aylestone Park in the final, securing promotion to Step 4 of the Northern Premier League Midlands Division.

The 2024–25 season saw the club enjoy a respectable 11th-place finish in its first campaign at Step 4, comfortably establishing itself at the new level.

As of the 2024–25 season the club has a youth team competing in the Midland Floodlit Youth League, teams from Under-7 to Under-16, and an academy nursery section, Mini Racers, for children aged 4 to 7. The junior teams compete in the Coventry & Warwickshire Youth League and the Midland Junior Premier League (MJPL). The club also has a partnership with Leamington Lions Girls and Ladies, alongside an academy and education programme delivered in partnership with HOET.

The 2025–26 season began strongly with an impressive Emirates FA Cup run that took the club to the Second Qualifying Round. In March, manager Scott Easterlow resigned to take up the vacant manager's position at Leamington FC. The club reacted quickly by appointing Chris Knott and Jack Edwards as joint managers, and results improved dramatically. Over the final 10 league matches, Racing won six, drew three and lost just once, securing fifth place and the final play-off position on the last day of the season.

The play-offs proved just as dramatic. After winning a penalty shootout away at Carlton Town in the semi-final, Racing travelled to Belper Town for the final. Following a 1–1 draw, the club triumphed 7–6 on penalties to earn promotion back to Step 3 for the first time in more than 20 years.

The 2026–27 season will see Racing Club Warwick compete in the Southern League Premier Division Central.
