Rams held on a day of draws

By Ian Townsend

The Pitching In Isthmian South East saw five draws, but Ashford, Heath and the Hillians bucked that trend, whilst Ramsgate stay top. Here's our round up.

Our leaders, Ramsgate, knew they would still top the table no matter their result at VCD Athletic, and that was just as well, as the Rams needed a late equaliser to take a point. Jack Paxman gave them the lead just before the break, but Vickers drew level soon after the restart through Anthony Adesite, and fifteen minutes from time Youssef Bamba looked as if he’d scored a winner for the hosts. Four minutes from time a spot kick went the way of the visitors, and Ashley Miller held his nerve to convert.

Ashford United are up to second, after an impressive win on the road at Littlehampton Town. In a match which saw three red cards late on, George Nikaj gave the Nuts and Bolts and early lead, only for Joe Benn to quickly level. On twenty minutes Ommar Lawson restored the visitors advantage, and just before the break Gary Lockyer made it three-one from the spot. Our only other action of note came right at the end, Dion Jarvis seeing red for Littlehampton, Mamadou Diallo joining him for the visitors, and then Shay Wiggins managing two yellow cards in nineteen minutes after coming on as a substitute Image courtesy of the Nuts and Bolts.

Whitehawk remain unbeaten in fourth place, but could only draw at Sheppey United. The Hawks have played eleven matches this season in all competitions and have lost only one- but missed out on three points despite leading for most of the match. Joe Shelley opened the scoring from the spot on nine minutes, and it looked liked the Hawks were assured of victory when Jefferson Aibangbee saw red thirteen minutes from time, but two minutes later the ten men converted a penalty of their own, Billy Bennett earning them a point.

We’d a Kent derby as Sittingbourne hosted Chatham Town, and neither side could manage a goal between them. The Chats are sixth, the Brickies ninth.

Cray Valley PM were on the road to Lancing, a side they defeated at Culver Road as recently as 13th September, a four-one FA Trophy win giving them confidence as they headed down the A27 again. The Lancers scored both goals of the game, although sadly one of them was at the wrong end in a one-one draw. Ashley Mutongerwa scored at the right end.

Burgess Hill Town welcomed East Grinstead Town and finally- finally- delighted their fans with a league victory. The winner came twenty minutes from time, and it went to Dan Perry, who lifted his side to eighteenth.

Chichester City were at home for the second time this week, as Faversham Town braved the roadworks and roundabouts of the A27, and managed to score both goals in a draw. The Lilywhites got the opener, an own goal putting them ahead after six minutes, but Kaleem Haitham drew the hosts level eight minutes before the break. Faversham stay second from bottom, City are twelfth.

Corinthian are still looking for their first league win. They hosted a Haywards Heath Town side who also would have expected to have more than one victory so far this season coming into this game- and now they have two, delivering a comfortable three-nil win. James Dickson gave Heath the lead four minutes before the break, and five minutes after it Tom Collins made it two. An own goal thirteen minutes from time made quite sure of three points.
