Akrofi takes the top job at Aveley

Aveley had a difficult week last week, with the departure of boss Brett Munyard shortly before their FA Cup tie against Brentwood, the news that Munyard was joining Brentwood, and then defeat after being two goals up- but things are looking brighter at Parkside with the appointment of club legend Alex Akrofi as their new manager.

Forward Alex is perhaps best known- in our circles, at least- for his success as a Miller, where he played one hundred and thirty four times, scoring seventy two goals and assisting forty three times. He was a big part of Aveley's Pitching In Isthmian North title, and has also won promotion with Brentwood Town and Maidstone United. He played at a higher level, with Tonbridge Angels, made twenty six appearances for Carshalton Athletic during 22-23, and was back at Brentwood during the 23-24 season, where he played twenty two times. He moved on to play for Tilbury after leaving the Arena, and then went back to Brentwood in a coaching capacity last year.

Chairman Craig Johnson told the club website:

“I have known Alex for many years, and he returns as a fan favourite. It’s no secret that I have always said that one day Alex will be our number one. The time I feel is right for Alex, having worked under Keith Rowland for the past couple of seasons, to make that step up.

I am delighted Alex has accepted the role, and I have every confidence that his work ethic, desire and application will help him become an excellent manager.”
