Ambers urge support for Cancer charity Maggie's
Former Cheshunt boss Mel Gwinnett is fighting Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, and the club are supporting his family in their fundraising efforts
When Cheshunt announced that boss Mel Gwinnett had been forced to step away on health grounds in the summer, we hoped that he'd be back soon- but the Ambers have now confirmed, via Mel's family, that he has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and is receiving treatment at Northampton General Hospital.
Mel's family have launched a fundraising drive in aid of Maggie’s Northampton, and the Ambers have asked their fans to provide their support. Maggie's Centres are cancer support units based across the country and beyond, with twenty nine in the UK alone; and the centre in Northampton is proving extremely valuable to Mel and his nearest and dearest. Accordingly three members of his family will be participating in a 10K run at Silverstone in November, and they are trying to raise a thousand pounds. You can help by making a donation here.
As well as the Ambers, Potters Bar Town- these days in the Pitching In Southern League- hosted a collection for the charity at their FA Trophy match last Friday evening. Mel's former club, Hampton & Richmond Borough, have also been promoting their support.
We'd like to send our love to Mel as he continues his treatment, with the hope that he is back in the game soon- and we'd also like to send our best wishes to his wife Lorraine, son Raif and daughters Stacey and Danielle, and wish them the best of luck- not only with their fundraising efforts but with the actual run!
